LayerEdge, an innovative blockchain project enhancing Bitcoin’s blockspace with zero-knowledge (ZK) and BitVM technologies, has introduced its Proof of Humanity (PoH) system to ensure network integrity and fair reward distribution.
Launched on April 19, 2025, PoH is a privacy-preserving verification process designed to confirm that participants are real humans, not bots or duplicate accounts, thereby strengthening Sybil resistance.
This article provides a detailed explanation of LayerEdge Proof of Humanity, including its purpose, operation, participation requirements, and significance for users exploring its ecosystem.
What is LayerEdge Proof of Humanity?
As the name implies, LayerEdge Proof of Humanity is a decentralized identity verification system designed to ensure that only genuine, unique individuals participate in the LayerEdge ecosystem.
As outlined in its blog announcement, PoH ensures that rewards and access are distributed fairly, fostering a healthy and trustworthy ecosystem. By preventing Sybil attacks, where users create multiple fake identities, PoH safeguards the network’s integrity, particularly for airdrops and mainnet access.
“LayerEdge PoH (Proof of Humanity) is a privacy-preserving identity verification system that strengthens Sybil resistance across our network. It ensures that real users are rewarded for genuine participation — without exposing any personal data,” the announcement read.
Unlike traditional verification methods that may require sharing sensitive personal data, PoH is a privacy-preserving approach, utilizing cryptographic techniques to confirm identities without compromising user security. This aligns with LayerEdge’s mission to provide trust-minimized settlement on Bitcoin’s blockchain, leveraging its Proof-of-Work security.
Why Proof of Humanity Matters
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) and bots become more sophisticated, distinguishing between human and automated accounts is increasingly challenging. In blockchain networks, Sybil attacks can undermine fairness, particularly in reward systems such as airdrops, where bots can claim disproportionate shares.
LayerEdge PoH addresses this by ensuring that rewards, such as the anticipated $EDGE token airdrop, are distributed only to verified human participants. It also enhances trust in the network’s testnet and future mainnet operations, making it a cornerstone of LayerEdge’s decentralized ecosystem.
The protocol has partnered with human.tech, zkPass, and Primus, with each bringing their identity infra to make its network sybil-resistant and fairer for real users. Human Passport, an affiliate of Human.tech, a Sybil-resistance protocol, will specifically tackle Sybil entries by using its machine learning models to identify wallets that are confidently human-based, based on transaction history across several networks.
According to the announcement, Human Passport has safeguarded over $400M in airdrops and grants without compromising user privacy.
How Does LayerEdge Proof of Humanity Work?
LayerEdge PoH provides a flexible and user-friendly verification process, featuring two primary pathways: the Standard Flow and the Alternative Path. Here’s a breakdown of how it functions, as seen in its blog:
Standard Flow
Offchain Credentials (Compulsory): All users must complete a compulsory Know Your Customer (KYC) task, such as submitting a zkPass-based attestation (Uber Rides, Binance KYC, etc.). Completing even a single attestation is sufficient for PoH verification, but higher engagement can significantly improve reward tiers.

Pro Trader (Optional): Unlocked after one offchain credential task is completed. Complete one trading verification via Primus, which includes 30-day spot volume on Binance, Bybit, OKX, and more…

Onchain OG (Optional): This is unlocked after 2 Offchain Credential + 1 Pro Trader tasks are completed. Here, users have to complete the Human Passport Verification.

Alternative Path
- Designed for users facing regional restrictions or other constraints, this path requires a small gas fee of approximately $0.10 to cover backend and onchain costs. This ensures inclusivity for those unable to use the Standard Flow. Hence, users can skip directly to Onchain OG verification. However, it does not guarantee that Human Passport Verification will succeed.
In summary, the verification process is structured to reward engagement as follows:
User Type | Pro Trader Unlock | Onchain OG Unlock |
Regular Users | After 1 KYC task | After 2 KYC tasks + 1 Pro Trader task |
OG Pledge Pass Holders | After 1 KYC task | After 1 KYC task + 1 Pro Trader task |
Users can check their progress and complete tasks via the LayerEdge PoH dashboard
Who Can Participate?
LayerEdge PoH is open to a wide range of participants, ensuring inclusivity:
- Testnet Users: All individuals who registered during the LayerEdge testnet, which began on January 22, 2025, and includes phases like Season 2, running until March 22, 2025.
- OG Pledge Pass Holders: These early supporters are guaranteed a $2 airdrop at the Token Generation Event (TGE), regardless of PoH status, though completing PoH can enhance their rewards.
Impact on Airdrops and Mainnet Access
PoH trust scores directly influence airdrop eligibility and mainnet access. Completing levels improves reward tiers and grants early access to Epoch II. With 9% of the total $EDGE token supply allocated for airdrops, fully unlocked at TGE, PoH is critical for maximizing potential gains.
For users unable to complete PoH by the April 25, 2025, deadline, an alternative exists: staking Epoch I (Phase 1 & 2) points post-initial airdrop for early access to Epoch II. This ensures that even latecomers can participate in future opportunities.
Looking Ahead
With the PoH deadline set for April 25, 2025, users are urged to visit the LayerEdge PoH dashboard to complete their verifications. As LayerEdge progresses toward its TGE and mainnet launch, PoH will remain a cornerstone of its ecosystem, ensuring fairness and trust.
For crypto enthusiasts and blockchain newcomers, LayerEdge Proof of Humanity presents an opportunity to engage with a cutting-edge project while potentially securing rewards. By prioritizing privacy, accessibility, and community feedback, LayerEdge is poised to redefine decentralized verification in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
