Succinct Labs, a blockchain infrastructure company, has announced its $PROVE token and the architecture for its Succinct Prover Network, a decentralized protocol on Ethereum designed to streamline zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) generation.
This development, detailed in a May 19, 2025, blog post, aims to create a robust marketplace connecting provers and requesters for applications like blockchains, AI agents, and games. This article explores Succinct Labs’ vision, the $PROVE token’s utility, and the network’s technical framework.
What is Succinct Labs?
Succinct Labs is a leader in ZKP technology, focused on making proof generation accessible and scalable. The company is building a protocol on Ethereum that coordinates a distributed network of provers to generate ZKPs for various software applications.
“Succinct is building a protocol on Ethereum that coordinates a distributed network of provers to generate zero knowledge proofs for any piece of software,” the blog read.
This protocol creates a two-sided marketplace, enabling requesters, such as blockchain developers or game studios, to obtain proofs from provers, who compete to offer competitive prices.
The company’s flagship product, SP1, is a high-performance zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM). Succinct Labs has secured significant backing, raising $55 million in a Series A round led by Paradigm in March 2024. Partnerships with major blockchain projects like Polygon, Celestia, and Avail underscore its growing influence in the ZKP ecosystem.
The Succinct Prover Network: A Verifiable Application
The Succinct Prover Network is architected as a verifiable application (vApp), blending the performance of Web2 applications with Web3’s cryptographic verifiability. The blog explains, “A network architecture as a vApp that provides users with the experience of interacting with a high performance web application while giving them the assurance that their deposits are secure and enabling them to independently verify the state of the network.”
This design avoids the transaction throughput limitations of existing blockchains, offering a real-time user experience.
The network separates off-chain and on-chain components:
- Off-chain auctioneer service: Matches proof requests with provers via real-time bidding, ensuring high performance.
- On-chain settlement contracts: Settle state roots and ZKPs on Ethereum, securing user funds and enabling independent verification.
Similar to Layer 2 sequencers, this architecture ensures that the auctioneer does not custody user funds, which remain on Ethereum for direct withdrawal. The auctioneer service includes a verifiable database and an SP1 program, allowing anyone to verify balance updates and proof of fulfillments through Merkle proofs posted to Ethereum.
$PROVE Token: Powering the Network
The $PROVE, an ERC-20 token, is central to the Succinct Prover Network. With an initial supply of 1 billion tokens, it serves three primary functions, as outlined in the blog: “PROVE is the payment token of the Succinct Prover Network. Requesters pay provers in PROVE. PROVE secures the network via staking, distribution of value, and governance. PROVE incentivizes provers to provide competitive prices to requesters.”
Key Functions of $PROVE
- Payments: Requesters pay provers in $PROVE for generating ZKPs, facilitating seamless transactions.
- Staking and Security: Provers stake $PROVE to participate in auctions, providing economic security against missed deadlines or malicious behavior. Delegates can stake on behalf of provers, earning a fraction of fees.
- Governance: Stakers vote on network parameters, such as emissions rates, staking requirements, and auction formats.
- Incentives: $PROVE encourages provers to invest in infrastructure and lower costs, with fees and emissions distributed among provers, delegates, and the protocol treasury.
Testnet Progress and Future Plans
Succinct Labs is actively developing the Prover Network through testnet stages. Stage 1 processed over 2.2 million proofs, focusing on community education. Stage 2, currently live, allows users to act as provers and earn rewards. The upcoming Stage 2.5, set to launch in a few weeks, will feature an end-to-end deployment.
“We’ll be deploying an end-to-end version of this system in Stage 2.5 of our testnet in a few weeks. In Stage 2.5, application developers will be able to easily request proofs.”
The company is also advancing SP1’s formal verification with Veridise, ensuring mathematical correctness.
Last Words
The Succinct Prover Network addresses a critical need in the blockchain ecosystem: scalable and accessible ZKP generation. By creating a decentralized marketplace, Succinct Labs enables developers to integrate ZKPs into diverse applications without building costly infrastructure. The $PROVE token’s multifaceted role ensures network security, incentivizes efficiency, and empowers community governance, aligning with the ethos of Web3.
For developers, the network’s vApp architecture offers a seamless experience, while provers benefit from a competitive marketplace. As ZKPs gain traction in blockchain scaling, AI, and gaming, Succinct Labs’ protocol could become a cornerstone of the ecosystem.
