Pi Network celebrated its annual Pi2Day event on June 28, 2025, with a series of groundbreaking updates. The event, held to mark the mathematical constant Pi (π ≈ 3.14, with 6.28 representing 2π), introduced the AI-powered Pi App Studio and Ecosystem Directory Staking, alongside technical improvements and a community challenge.

These developments aim to enhance the Pi Network ecosystem, though migration delays continue to spark debate among Pioneers, with many voicing their discontent on X. However, migration improvements were uncovered as part of the ecosystem enhancements.

Pi2Day 2025: A New Era for Pi Network

Pi Network kicked off Pi2Day 2025 with an announcement on X from its official account on June 28. The post highlighted two major features: the Pi App Studio, an AI-driven no-code platform, and Ecosystem Directory Staking, a tool to boost app visibility through staking. Additional updates included a Node software upgrade, extended .pi Domains auctions, and improvements to Mainnet migration.

The official Pi Blog elaborated on the event, stating, “Today, Pi released two major features: (1) an AI application platform that intends to solve problems the world faces as AI advances, based on both blockchain and AI technologies, as well as expand Pioneers’ access to contribute to, engage with, and support Pi apps and utilities in the ecosystem; and (2) another platform-level utility allowing Pioneers and businesses to support Pi apps and utilities via a staking mechanism.”

Pi App Studio: Democratizing App Development

Pi App Studio is designed to lower the barrier to app creation, targeting the significant percentage of potential developers lacking coding skills. The platform leverages generative AI (GenAI) to allow users to build apps using natural language, addressing a gap between AI infrastructure and real-world applications.

“Pi App Studio is one attempt to attain a vision shared by many technologists: a world where anyone can create and run apps using human languages, without needing a technical background,” the blog read.

It offers two options: topic-specific chatbots and a beta open platform for custom apps. Creators can deploy apps automatically via AI, iterate based on community feedback, and integrate with Pi products like the Pi Ad Network and .pi Domains.

“This allows for more iterations and attempts by a wider range of people at app creation in a decentralized way—at cheaper engineering costs than what it took to create the applications in the Web2 era,” the Protocol adds.

Ecosystem Directory Staking: Boosting App Visibility

Ecosystem Directory Staking, rolled out on June 28, enables Pioneers and businesses to stake Pi on the Mainnet blockchain to improve app rankings in the Ecosystem Interface. Unlike traditional Web2 ranking systems dominated by algorithms or ads, this feature decentralizes influence using community support.

The innovation is a new platform-level utility that introduces a decentralized way for Pioneers and businesses to actively support and promote the ranking of Pi apps and utilities in the Ecosystem Interface.

Additionally, no protocol-level rewards are offered, though third-party developers may provide incentives. Staked Pi is returned after the duration ends, addressing concerns raised by some users regarding reward issues.

”Note there are no Pi rewards on the protocol level for the staking as it does not make sense for the network to promote one Pi app over another through this staking feature,” Pi clarified.

Technical and Migration Updates

Pi Network also released Node Version 0.5.2, renamed Pi Desktop, which enhances security, adds public key visibility for ranking, and supports resizable windows for better usability with Pi App Studio. The new Node ranking page on the Pi Blockexplorer highlights the top 5,000 Nodes based on reliability and performance, refreshed every 24 hours.

Mainnet migration saw significant progress, with over 500,000 additional Pioneers unblocked, bringing the total migrated to over 3 million since the Open Network launch. Dedicated blockchain API servers have improved stability and throughput by 15%. Further, the .pi Domains Auction was extended to September 30, 2025, to accommodate app creators needing domains.

Pi2Day Ecosystem Challenge: Engaging the Community

To celebrate Pi2Day’s various ecosystem and utility-supporting updates, the protocol has urged users to participate in the Pi2Day Ecosystem Challenge. Pi Network also disclosed that Pioneers will also receive ”fun digital prizes after completing certain tiers of steps.”

Running from June 27 to July 7, the Pi2Day Ecosystem Challenge encourages Pioneers to explore new features for potential rewards.

Pioneers can join the Challenge by doing the following, according to the Pi2Day 2025 Challenge documentation

  • Open your Pi mining app and tap the Ecosystem Challenge button on your home screen.
  • Follow the list of actions. Each one will prompt you to explore, engage, or complete a meaningful step within the Pi ecosystem.
  • Complete all the steps to unlock special rewards and celebrate Pi2Day with the global Pioneer community!

Pi Network’s Vision: AI and Blockchain Synergy

Pi Network positions itself as a solution to AI-driven world challenges, as outlined in the Pi Blog: “The ultimate utility of any technology, including blockchain, resides in solving the fundamental problems of humankind.”

These include the infancy of the AI application layer, the role of human labor, and equitable benefit distribution in an AI-pervasive future. The platform believes that the world can solve these problems using both AI and blockchain technologies.

With over 13.7 million KYC-verified users and a global network spanning 200 countries, Pi leverages its social infrastructure to support this vision.

Conclusion

Pi2Day 2025 marks a pivotal moment for Pi Network, blending AI and blockchain to empower non-technical users and enhance ecosystem utility.

While Pi App Studio and Ecosystem Directory Staking signal innovation, its progress in resolving migration issues will be key to maintaining community trust. As the blockchain platform continues to evolve, its ability to deliver on these promises will shape its future in the cryptocurrency landscape.
