LayerEdge's mainnet gets closer by the day, which just leaves the question... When token launch?

LayerEdge, a Bitcoin layer-2 solution focused on trust-minimized settlement, is nearing its highly anticipated mainnet launch following the successful completion of its Proof of Humanity (PoH) initiative. This milestone suggests that the Token Generation Event (TGE) and a potential airdrop are on the horizon, signaling significant progress for the decentralized verification network.

Setting the Stage for Mainnet and TGE

LayerEdge concluded its Proof of Humanity verification on April 25, 2025, engaging over 500,000 users who completed more than 1 million attestations. The initiative, designed to ensure a Sybil-resistant network, utilized a privacy-first approach to verify user identities without compromising sensitive data.

According to Bitcoin Ecosystem’s post on X, this milestone has set the stage for LayerEdge’s mainnet launch, with the project now focusing on its upcoming TGE.

The PoH process allowed users to connect their wallets to the Leia Age dashboard and complete attestations using Web2 and Web3 credentials. Level 1 verification, which required KYC through platforms like Binance, Bybit, or Coinbase, was sufficient for participation, while higher levels remained optional.

Partnered with zkPass, Primus Labs, and Human.tech, the protocol leveraged zkTLS technology to prioritize user privacy. The base verification cost was a minimal $0.12, making it accessible to a broad audience, though some users reported website congestion due to high participation.

Testnet Success and Cost Savings

LayerEdge’s testnet phase has also demonstrated impressive results, as detailed in Bitcoin Ecosystem’s graphic. The testnet processed 589,565 proofs from various blockchains, consolidating them into 58,958 batched proofs on private Bitcoin Signet blocks. This aggregation resulted in potential gas savings of $4,940,327 USD, showcasing LayerEdge’s ability to reduce verification costs by up to 99%.

With 32 ecosystem partners already on board, the project is gaining traction as a scalable solution for Bitcoin-backed decentralized systems. The incentivized testnet, which ran its Season 2 program until March 22, 2025, allowed users to earn EDGE points by running light nodes, verifying proofs, and completing social tasks. These points are expected to play a significant role in the upcoming airdrop, with 9% of the total token supply allocated for distribution, which will be fully unlocked at the TGE.

What’s Next? Airdrop, TGE, and Mainnet Launch

The current sentiment is that LayerEdge is now preparing for an airdrop and TGE, key steps before the mainnet launch. While no specific date for the mainnet has been confirmed, the roadmap shared in Bitcoin Ecosystem’s post places the TGE and airdrop as the next milestones, followed by the mainnet launch and subsequent network expansion.

The LayerEdge Foundation is expected to release further details soon, generating buzz among the crypto community. Meanwhile, LayerEdge is expected to launch its mainnet shortly, as shown in their roadmap shared earlier this month. However, the team didn’t share any timeline for the TGE and airdrop. Hence, it is worth noting that the post from the Bitcoin Ecosystem is merely speculation based on the usual occurrences in the blockchain industry.

Post-Mainnet Plans: Expansion and Partnerships

Following the mainnet launch, LayerEdge has ambitious growth plans. The project aims to integrate with more layer-1 blockchains and modular stacks, expanding its Universal Validator Set (UVS) and introducing staking mechanisms. Innovations, such as full integration with Babylon BSN staking, are also on the horizon, alongside efforts to scale trust-minimized verification on Bitcoin.

The roadmap shared by Bitcoin Ecosystem indicates that network expansion and the launch of the UVS will be key focuses post-mainnet. These developments aim to solidify LayerEdge’s position as a leading verification layer for decentralized ecosystems, particularly those anchored on Bitcoin.

Despite its progress, LayerEdge faces challenges that could impact its mainnet rollout. The PoH website congestion reported by users highlights potential scalability issues that the team must address. Additionally, while the project emphasizes decentralization, its reliance on centralized exchanges for Know Your Customer (KYC) verification has sparked debate among users who prioritize fully decentralized systems.

Transparency around funding and the mainnet timeline remains a concern for some community members. LayerEdge will need to continue providing clear updates to build trust as it approaches its mainnet launch.

Conclusion: A Step Closer to a Bitcoin-Backed Future

LayerEdge’s advancements come at a time when the crypto industry is increasingly focused on scalability and interoperability. By enabling rollups, dApps, and modular chains to verify computations on Bitcoin with minimal cost, LayerEdge addresses key pain points in blockchain technology. Its focus on privacy through zk proofs and partnerships with established players positions it as a forward-thinking project in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

LayerEdge’s successful Proof of Humanity initiative and testnet performance mark significant steps toward its mainnet launch. With the TGE and airdrop fast approaching, the project is poised to make a notable impact in the crypto space.

As the crypto community awaits further details from the LayerEdge Foundation, the project’s focus on transparency, scalability, and user engagement will be critical to its long-term success. For now, LayerEdge is one to watch as it moves closer to realizing a Bitcoin-backed internet.
