Chat with Binance CEO CZ, French Official

The first day of the Binance Blockchain week started off with a fireside chat between Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and French politician Jean-Noël Barrot.

Barrot is France’s Minister for Digital Transition and Telecommunications. He was asked about the overall cryptocurrency atmosphere in France.

He said, “There are huge opportunities with regards to Web3 in general. The transition from Web2 to Web3 will unleash huge opportunities for the the economy of France, and that is precisely why the French government is so supportive of the Web3 ecosystem, particularly the crypto ecosystem.”

He said that France has become the main hub for crypto in Europe, evidenced by the country’s ability to attract industry leaders like Binance.

Barrot said that France has a growing Venture Capital ecosystem that is becoming specialized in crypto and blockchain technologies. Additionally, France has regulators who generally have a solid understanding of what blockchain-based finance is about.

He conceded that French regulators can be a little tough at times, and that can be overwhelming for companies, but on the brighter side, the regulators are responsive and knowledgeable.

Summing up, he said that France has the right talent for the blockchain industry, as France has leading engineering schools. He said if students are exposed to technology and blockchain from a small age then it will help in reducing the digital divide.
