"Freedom of Money" is the new memoir by Changpeng Zhao, the founder and former CEO of Binance. The book launched today, April 8, 2026, and is already available as a Kindle e-book on Amazon for $9.99. Paperback, hardcover, and Audible editions are expected to follow. A Traditional Chinese edition, titled 幣安人生, is also live. At 366 pages, it covers everything from CZ's childhood in rural China to his four-month federal prison sentence, and it has already hit #1 in Amazon's Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies category.

CZ The book Freedom of Money

What Does the Book Actually Cover?

The full title sets the tone: "Freedom of Money: A Memoir of Protecting Users, Resilience, and the Founding of Binance." It is part autobiography, part industry retrospective.

CZ starts with his early years growing up in a home with no running water and a dirt floor, then traces his path to Canada as a teenager, through his tech career, and into crypto. The core of the book picks up in 2017 when he launched Binance with a small team. From there, the story follows the exchange's rise to more than 300 million users and its early reputation as the fastest startup to reach a $1 billion valuation.

But CZ does not stop at the success story. The book takes on the controversies directly:

  • The FTX collapse and the fallout across the industry
  • Regulatory battles with the U.S. DOJ and SEC
  • His guilty plea to a single Bank Secrecy Act violation (notably, no fraud or money laundering charges)
  • The $4.3 billion fine imposed on Binance and his personal $150 million fine
  • His prison sentence, during which he wrote much of the book

CZ has said publicly that part of his motivation was to reclaim the human side of his story. Court filings and media coverage, in his view, stripped that away. The book frames his experience around resilience and the case for broader financial access, not just legal trouble.

Who Else is Involved?

The foreword comes from Yi He, Binance co-founder, current co-CEO, and CZ's long-time partner. The two have been together since 2014 and have three children together. She also heads YZi Labs, the venture capital arm and family office tied to CZ and Binance.

The book is published by the Freedom of Money Foundation, and CZ has confirmed that 100% of his personal proceeds and royalties will go to charity through that same foundation.

The book features strong endorsements from high-profile figures, including Ray Dalio (Bridgewater Associates), BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Haidilao founder Zhang Yong, and blockchain investor Matt Roszak.

Why Does This Book Matter Right Now?

The timing stands out. CZ is no longer running Binance day to day. Since completing his sentence and receiving a presidential pardon in October 2025, he has moved on to new ventures, including Giggle Academy, an education platform for children, and YZi Labs.

The book arrives as the crypto industry is still sorting through its relationship with U.S. regulators. CZ's account reportedly goes into detail on interactions with the SEC, past ties involving former Chair Gary Gensler, and his belief that the case represented overreach against a non-U.S. platform.

Early coverage suggests he does not hold back. An early draft reportedly leaked months ago, and outlets have already flagged several insider revelations. CZ himself has been promoting the launch on X, encouraging readers to leave Amazon reviews as availability rolls out globally by time zone.

How Does It Connect to Binance's Origins?

The title itself is a callback. "Freedom of Money" has been CZ's public mantra since roughly 2018, and it was built into Binance's original mission statement: to increase the freedom of money. The book ties that founding ethos directly to his personal story and his argument for why crypto matters.

Whether readers agree with CZ's framing or not, this is the first major first-person account from someone at the center of one of crypto's biggest legal and corporate stories. For anyone who followed the Binance saga in real time, this is the other side of that narrative.
