When Will Monad Launch Its Token and Mainnet?

Experts anticipate mainnet and token rollout in late 2025, possibly Q3-Q4, amid community buzz for potential airdrops.

Monad Labs emerged as a leading platform in the blockchain sector, thanks to its project aimed at enhancing the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) for improved performance. However, with little information regarding the token launch and TGE, the hype has died down a bit. The company, launched in 2022 by Keone Hon, James Hunsaker, and Eunice Giarta, all former Jump Trading engineers, has raised $244 million, including a $225 million funding round led by Paradigm in April 2024.
The end goal? To achieve 10,000 transactions per second (TPS), 0.5-second block times, single-slot finality, and minimal gas fees. Monad keeps full compatibility with Ethereum's bytecode and RPC API, meaning developers can move apps, tools, and wallets over without changes.
Additionally, the blockchain platform introduces parallel execution to the EVM, differing from Ethereum's step-by-step approach. Its main components include MonadBFT for consensus, deferred and asynchronous execution, optimistic parallel execution, and a specialized state database known as MonadDb, coded in C++ and Rust. These aim to enhance speed while supporting decentralization, as nodes can run on standard consumer hardware.
Nonetheless, the project is still in testnet, and no native token exists yet.
Progress So Far: Devnet to Testnet
The project kicked off with an internal devnet on March 14, 2024, which showed off the 10,000 TPS target on the EVM. A public testnet followed on February 19, 2025. It currently runs with about 57 validators, with plans to reach hundreds before the mainnet. The gas limit sits at 300 million per second, heading toward 1 billion.
Growing the Monad Ecosystem
Monad Labs has put effort into building out its ecosystem. The Mach 1 Accelerator, which began in September 2024, helps teams on Monad with basics like starting up, branding, and raising money. Events like Monad Madness have held pitch competitions worldwide, including Bangkok in November 2024 and Hong Kong in April 2025. These offered more than $1 million in prizes and chances for $60 million in venture funding.
The evm/accathon hackathon at ETHDenver 2025 commenced on February 24, 2025, with both virtual and live options and over $100,000 in prizes. Furthermore, over 100 projects are currently building on Monad. This covers DeFi with names like Kuru Exchange, aPriori MEV, and Jigsaw Finance; NFTs backed by Magic Eden from day one; gaming through Sparkball, billed as the first console game native to the platform; and payments boosted by buying Portal HQ in July 2025 for a stablecoin setup. Cross-chain work includes ties with Wormhole, Axelar, and Circle, so USDC and CCTP will be ready on mainnet launch. In July 2024, ecosystem raises included $2 million for Kuru, $10 million for aPriori, and $4 million for Kintsu.
Expected Timeline for Token and Mainnet
Monad Labs and the Monad Foundation haven't released information on tokenomics, such as total supply, distribution, or utilities like paying fees, staking, or voting. Experts think the token generation event (TGE) will tie into the mainnet rollout, as layer-1 chains often do.
The devnet was internal in March 2024, and the testnet went public in February 2025. For mainnet and the token, late 2025 is the consensus, likely Q3 or Q4. Some point to July through September 2025, others to later or year-end. One unconfirmed X post floated on September 8, 2025, but that's not official. It's also worth noting that past guesses for Q1 2025 or Q4 2024 didn't happen.
A July 10, 2025, post from @monad_xyz joked that mainnet feels like it's "taking forever," showing work continues without a fixed date. The official website, docs, and other materials lack a detailed roadmap for tokens or the mainnet. Discussions of an airdrop checker or rewards are linked to November 12, 2025, and testnet use, but nothing is set.

Hurdles and What's Coming Next
Monad aims to address Ethereum's slowdowns, but it faces competition from fast Layer 1s like Solana and Sui. Pushbacks from 2024 targets highlight the challenges of parallel EVM work. After launch, the focus shifts to expanding the validator base, conducting security reviews, and fostering user growth.
Should the token go live, it might draw buzz from the buildup, but research is essential. As layer-1 projects advance, Monad's steps could shape EVM-friendly chains.
