Binance has added 10 of Ondo Finance's tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs to its Binance Alpha platform, marking the exchange's first foray into tokenized equities since it shut down a similar service in 2021 following regulatory pressure from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority and Germany's BaFin. The tokens are available through Binance Wallet and are not accessible to users in the United States.
What Are Ondo Tokenized Securities?
Tokenized securities are blockchain-based digital assets designed to track the price performance of traditional stocks or ETFs on-chain. They give holders exposure to price movements of the underlying asset but do not carry full shareholder rights, including voting rights.
Ondo Finance is a blockchain platform focused on tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs), a category that includes stocks, ETFs, and fixed-income products. Ondo's tokenized securities are classified as structured products under FSRA regulations.
The ten assets now listed on Binance Alpha include some of the most traded names in traditional finance:
- AAPLon (Apple)
- GOOGLon (Alphabet/Google)
- TSLAon (Tesla)
- NVDAon (Nvidia)
- QQQon (Invesco Nasdaq-tracking ETF)
Why Did Binance Pull Out of Tokenized Stocks in 2021?
Binance first launched tokenized stocks in April 2021, starting with Tesla before adding Coinbase, Strategy, Microsoft, and Apple. The service was shut down later that year after regulators in the UK and Germany raised concerns about whether the products were being offered in compliance with local securities laws.
The decision to re-enter the market now reflects both a shift in the regulatory environment and the broader growth of the tokenized securities sector. Last month, Binance publicly stated it was considering a fresh push into tokenized equities. The Ondo partnership puts that plan into action.
How Does Trading Work on Binance Alpha?
Binance Alpha sits inside Binance Wallet, the exchange's non-custodial crypto wallet. It was originally built to give users early access to smaller, higher-risk crypto projects before they reach Binance's main spot marketplace. Adding tokenized securities expands that scope significantly.
Users can trade Ondo tokenized securities directly using funds from their Binance Exchange account. Key trading features include:
- Market orders for instant execution and limit orders for price-specific entries
- Trading fees that may be as low as 0%
- Zero gas fees on order placement and cancellation for a limited time
- Alpha Points earned on every trade or by simply holding Ondo tokenized securities, which can be used to access airdrops, token generation events (TGEs), and Prime Sales
"Our users now have even more convenient ways to explore and trade tokenized securities, in line with our mission to offer innovative and accessible trading opportunities,” said Jeff Li, Binance's vice president of product.
Is the Tokenized Securities Market Growing?
The tokenized securities sector has gained considerable traction over the past year. Total value across the sector is approaching $1 billion, with Ondo alone accounting for more than $550 million in total value since launching its Ondo Global Markets platform in September 2025. The platform has generated over $11 billion in cumulative trading volume across tens of thousands of users.
Ondo's assets already trade on Gate, Bitget, and MetaMask, among others. Other major exchanges including Kraken, Bybit, and Gemini have launched their own versions of tokenized equity trading. Robinhood has done the same on the brokerage side. Even traditional exchanges like Nasdaq and the NYSE have outlined plans to offer stock token trading.
Ian De Bode, Ondo Finance's president, said the Binance partnership "signals the clear continued interest for tokenized stocks outside of the U.S."
Conclusion
Binance's return to tokenized stocks is more measured than its 2021 attempt. Rather than building its own infrastructure, it has plugged into Ondo's existing platform, which already carries over $550 million in total value locked and $11 billion in cumulative trading volume. The 10 tokens now live on Binance Alpha give non-U.S. users on-chain exposure to some of the most traded names in traditional finance, directly from their Binance Wallet. Whether the regulatory environment that shut this down four years ago stays quiet this time around will be the real test.
