Iran and U.S Close to Agreement...
President Trump confirms Israel and Iran are pursuing an immediate ceasefire to halt active hostilities, while the U.S. naval blockade remains in place pending a final agreement.

Trump Confirms Ceasefire Push as Talks Continue
President Donald Trump has confirmed that both Israel and Iran are pursuing an immediate ceasefire to halt active hostilities, marking what could be a significant turning point in a conflict that has reshaped the region since February 2026. Peace negotiations are continuing, though the White House has been clear that the U.S. naval blockade remains in place until a final agreement is reached.
Trump said talks are continuing with Iran despite Iranian state media claiming earlier that Tehran had suspended negotiations, posting on Truth Social that "Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran." The administration has consistently maintained that public statements from Tehran do not always reflect what is happening behind the scenes.
According to @IsraelHayomHeb, Iran has confirmed it has ceased operations against Israel. However, Tehran has also signaled it will resume military action if attacks on Lebanon continue. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that if Beirut came under Israeli fire, Iran would not tolerate it, adding that "such an action would mean that the ceasefire had been completely broken, and our armed forces would respond."
Blockade Stays in Place Pending Final Deal
On April 21, Trump announced that the U.S. was extending the ceasefire with Iran pending negotiations, while instructing the naval blockade to remain in place and telling the military to stay prepared to resume fighting. The blockade, which targets vessels going to and from Iranian ports, has become one of the central pressure points in the diplomatic process.
The fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has been in place since early April, but fighting between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon has complicated the temporary peace. Iran has demanded an end to hostilities in Lebanon and a halt to the U.S. blockade, while the U.S. is demanding that Iran hand over its nuclear material and agree never to obtain a nuclear weapon.
As of June 8, 2026, Israel and Iran have been trading fire in what is being described as the most serious confrontation since the April truce. The situation underscores just how fragile the current diplomatic window remains, even as both sides signal a willingness to negotiate. Any final agreement will need to resolve not only the bilateral U.S.-Iran standoff, but also the question of Lebanon, which Iran has insisted must be part of any comprehensive deal.
