When will Pi Network release a new roadmap? Many were surprised a 2025 roadmap didn't appear alongside Open Network... How long will be have to wait?
Pi Network is arguably one of the most discussed platforms in the blockchain space since its mobile-first cryptocurrency project launched in 2019 due to its easy-to-use and inclusive features. With a unique mining methodology through smartphones, the protocol has created a massive base of more than 60 million “Pioneers” who hope to use its untapped features.
February 2025 was a game changer for Pi Network, with the launch of its Open mainnet after much scrutiny from the public over multiple delays. Following the monumental progress in its development, users could move from a closed ecosystem to one that allowed external use and enabled $PI exchange trading on platforms like MEXC and OKX alongside real-world use cases.
Even with these advancements, the protocol still faces a never-ending issue: the release of an updated roadmap. Already, Pioneers are growing impatient with the core team, as no information has been shared regarding an updated roadmap, including future plans, post–mainnet launch.
This article provides insight into the current community reactions to the missing roadmap and the change it holds for Pi Network.
The open mainnet launch represented a significant moment for Pi Network’s development. The long-awaited launch comes after the enclosed mainnet phase, which commenced in December 2021, including beta and Testnet development phases years before that (2019 and 2020, respectively). So, yes, the open mainnet launch was a joy to behold for Pioneers.
After three weeks of excitement, Pioneers are questioning the protocol’s plans due to the lack of a clear direction. Previously, the roadmap was a blueprint guiding Pi Network enthusiasts on what to expect from the core team, including key phases and milestones. Now that the open mainnet phase is reached, does this mean there is no more important update to share with the community? This question is buried in the heart of many Pioneers, particularly on X.
To put into perspective, the last notable update from the Pi Core team was in December 2023, when the V2 Roadmap was unveiled to the public. The team shared details about the several phases of development, including the Open Mainnet milestone, although without a precise date for launch.
However, the team delivered the open mainnet, albeit after many delays and Grace period extensions. With this in mind, the team is yet to release an updated roadmap since December 2023.
For every top-budding protocol, X is the go-to app for communities sharing thoughts and responses about shortcomings and innovations. The same can be said of Pi Network, with the community using the social app to voice their concerns.
Recent posts highlight a mix of frustration, skepticism, and impatience over the lack of an updated roadmap. In the same fold, some users also believe that the roadmap is not an important feature for the core team to dwell on, rather, they should focus on onboarding more dApps into the Pi ecosystem.
A popular vocal Pi enthusiast, Woody Lightyear on X, recently voiced concerns about the protocol’s stance in revealing an updated roadmap, especially now that the open mainnet is live. In his recent tweet, the user was seen questioning the protocol’s decision to release an updated whitepaper.
The question, as expected, was met with several remarks in the comment section, with the consensus being that there may be no updated roadmap for now. In the meantime, many pioneers still believe that the whitepaper isn’t paramount, adding that it is only time for Pi to start building and incorporating more apps into its ecosystem.
However, some think that Pi Network needs to do better when communicating with the community.
Mixed reactions only mean one thing: A community at crossroads. Of course, the open mainnet launch was a technical success for the protocol’s long-term development, but users need clear ideas on what to expect in the near future.
There are several factors that could be delaying the release of an updated roadmap.
First, the team may be prioritizing stabilizing the open mainnet. The transition is no small feat, and with a growing number of decentralized applications, it may take some time to ensure network stability is at its peak. This could be one of the key drivers delaying the updated roadmap. It makes more sense to tackle unforeseen technical challenges.
Another key thesis could be the team’s observation. By this, we mean that the team may be trying to observe the post-launch landscape before committing to unveiling new milestones. Open Mainnet will be deemed successful if many Pioneers, businesses, and developers utilize Pi. Further, the token’s performance, including integration into other ecosystems may be pivotal in observations.
Speaking of token’s performance, external factors like the broader cryptocurrency market landscape may influence the timeline of the roadmap. Finally, there’s the possibility of strategic ambiguity. Pi Network has faced criticism for its referral model, delayed launches, and perceived lack of transparency over the years. By withholding a roadmap, the Core Team might avoid commitments they’re not yet ready to fulfill, opting to maintain flexibility as they navigate this uncharted phase.
Pi Network’s delayed roadmap isn’t just about the community’s grievance but also about its credibility and competitiveness. In the blockchain industry, many protocols must offer clarity to stay relevant. Platforms like Solana and Ethereum established roadmaps to guide investors and developers alike, with new features, milestones and upgrades to fill their communities with anticipation.
Pi Network needs to outline a compelling vision following the open mainnet launch, so it can keep its large userbase and continue its expansion. Moreover, the lack of direction could impact $Pi’s market performance. Without a roadmap to sustain confidence, Pi’s value could falter, especially if Pioneers begin to sell their holdings as there is no reason to hold due to lack of vision.
By now, every Pioneer knows that predicting anything related to Pi Network is an uphill task due to recent delays and unexpected announcements from the core team. While this is true, we have outlined some probable scenarios:
The coming weeks will be one to watch for Pi Network’s development. With Pi Day just a few days away, it may be too soon to announce an updated roadmap, however, it will mark three weeks post-mainnet launch. Is three weeks enough to prepare a Roadmap?
After the long delay in transitioning from a mobile mining application to an open blockchain, it is clear that the core team is determined to develop no matter the length of time it takes. The open mainnet launch on February 2025, is a testament of the protocol’s persistence but it is just half the story without an updated roadmap.
The protocol can maintain the momentum by launching a new roadmap with clear ambitions, feature upgrades, and more milestones to keep the community in check, except the launch was the endgame. As seen on X, the community is in dire need of updates that only the community can provide.
We at BSCN can only speculate based on facts, but the truth remains that there are little or no details regarding a forthcoming roadmap. As we await the protocol’s next move, the question persists; When will Pi Network release an Updated Roadmap?” While the answer remains elusive, the clock is ticking for the team’s response.
