Pi Network recently announced the winner of its monthly #PiHackathon - This time, with a musical spin…

As per a blog posted to minepi.com on October 11, the winner of August’s Pi Network hackathon competition has been announced.

This month’s choice involves a project called ‘RadioForUs’, which will reportedly be rewarded with some 10,000 Pi, as detailed on Pi Network’s ‘Pi Hackathon’ page.

What is RadioForUs?

According to the blog post, RadioForUs is an application that “integrates the Pi cryptocurrency and provides Pioneers with 24/7 access to stream music from a wide range of options”, including:

  • Top Hits
  • Latin American
  • Korean
  • 80s and 90s music
  • Reggae
RadioForUs “stood out among other hackathon submissions for its clear use case as a music player and integration of the Pi cryptocurrency into the core mechanics of its app”, reads the blog post.

That said, the announcement blog also disclaims that the RadioForUs application remains a work in progress and is therefore not yet available to the Pi Network community.

In addition, though some music channels will be free at the point of use to RadioForUs users, other channels are set to require “Pi payments” in order for visitors to listen.

Minepi.com’s post makes no reference to a release date for the RadioForUs application so, for the time being, the Pi Network community remains in the dark as to whether or not the platform will be launching imminently, or will remain in the works for some time - not unlike the Pi Network mainnet itself, which some users may now be expecting in the first half of 2024.

What is Pi Network?

Pi Network is a mobile mining blockchain with an application that lets people earn Pi coins by doing simple tasks on their phones. However, the project remains in its development stage with delivery of an open mainnet still a matter of speculation, with no launch date confirmed.

With this in mind, the protocol remains in its testnet stage and will apparently go live when many users (Pioneers) complete the mandatory KYC procedure while the core team works on developing its ecosystem.

Pi Network is also reported to be under investigation by authorities in Vietnam and users should exercise a high degree of caution when interacting with the project and ensure they have conducted sufficient research before doing so.
