Pi Network's 'Pi Day 2025' was an exciting one, seeing all new features added to the ecosystem. Here's what you need to know.

On March 14, 2025, Pi Network celebrated its sixth anniversary with the popular Pi Day initiative. This year’s Pi Day wasn’t just a commemoration. It was a bold step forward, spotlighting new features, community-driven growth, and a vision for a decentralized future.

On February 20, 2025, Pi Network unlocked external connectivity for Pi’s Mainnet blockchain, enabling seamless interactions beyond its ecosystem. This shift has empowered millions of Pioneers to engage with a network that boasts over 60 million users and many KYC-approved individuals. Numerous merchants worldwide have embraced Pi, integrating it into their operations, while a wave of community-built apps has emerged, addressing real needs and fueling engagement.

Generally, Pi Day 2025 showcased this momentum, proving the network’s stability and appeal to its community and the more expansive blockchain space at large.

Pi Day 2025: All New Features

As outlined in the protocol’s blog, Pi Day 2025 was packed with releases that underscored the network’s commitment to utility and expansion:

  1. The .pi Domains Auction
Starting on Pi Day and running until Pi2Day (June 28, 2025), this auction introduced .pi domains (unique digital identifiers within Pi’s Web3 ecosystem). These domains are accessible only through Pi crypto bids and offer Pioneers and external participants a chance to claim virtual storefronts or branding tools. Unlike traditional domains, .pi domains leverage Pi’s blockchain for transparency and security, integrating directly with the Pi Browser and compatible third-party services. Backed by the engagement of over 60 million Pioneers and a growing merchant base, they promise immediate utility. Proceeds from the auction will fuel ecosystem growth, reinforcing Pi’s platform-level utility.
  2. PiFest: Shopping Goes Global
The first Open Network PiFest launched on March 14 and will run through March 21, 2025, turning local commerce into a global showcase for Pi. Pioneers can now shop at Pi-powered businesses using the Pi Wallet, guided by the Map of Pi app, which lists over 100,000 registered sellers (49,000 active). This event highlights Pi’s real-world traction, encouraging community sharing on platforms like Fireside Forum’s #PiFest channel.
  3. Mainnet Ecosystem Expansion
Developers got a boost with a streamlined process to apply for Mainnet app listings. Previously, a pre-approval step slowed progress; now, eligible developers can submit directly via the Developer Portal. This change promises a surge in high-quality apps on the Mainnet Ecosystem Interface, enhancing utility and user options, though strict quality and compliance standards remain.
  4. Ecosystem UI Revamp
A cleaner, more intuitive Mainnet Ecosystem Interface debuted, replacing cluttered labels with simple badges: “M” for Mainnet, “T” for Testnet, and “!” for non-PiNet apps. This upgrade improves navigation, making it easier for Pioneers to explore community offerings.

Exploring .Pi Domains and PiFest

The .pi Domains Auction stands out as a game-changer. They are a fusion of Web3 innovation and Pi’s community strength. Unlike speculative virtual properties with unclear futures, .pi domains deliver instant value: merchants gain recognizable storefronts, developers launch custom apps, and brands boost discoverability. The auction, exclusive to Pi payments, taps into the network’s collective resources, making it a true platform-level utility distinct from narrower app-specific features.

Participation is open to all Pioneers and anyone acquiring Pi via exchanges, with bids starting at 10 Pi. The process leverages blockchain features like claimable balances for reversible bids, while non-Pioneers use custom “M” addresses, ensuring inclusivity.

On the other hand, PiFest isn’t just a shopping spree; it’s a celebration of Pi’s real-world footprint. From local merchants to global Pioneers, the event bridges digital currency with tangible commerce. With tools like the Map of Pi app and Pi Wallet, users can transact effortlessly while merchants amplify their reach.

Final Thoughts

Pi Day 2025 wasn’t without its hurdles. The Grace Period deadline for KYC and Mainnet migration frustrated some Pioneers, with unverified users losing older mined Pi. Market volatility also hit, with Pi’s price peaking at over $2 before dipping. Yet, the network’s resilience shone through, enhanced by its community’s unity and the tangible progress of Open Network initiatives.

As Pi Network marks six years, Pi Day 2025 reflects a maturing ecosystem that’s carving a unique path in Web3. These advancements, from .pi domains to PiFest, signal a shift from promise to practice. Challenges remain, but with millions of Pioneers and a growing merchant network, Pi is poised to redefine how blockchain empowers everyday life.

Happy anniversary, Pioneers!
