Fernando Pérez Algaba, reported missing on July 19, has been found dismembered in a suitcase in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina
On July 23, a group of children playing near the town of Ingeniero Budge, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, stumbled across a red suitcase, discovered to contain the dismembered remains of Fernando Pérez Algaba.
The cryptocurrency influencer was reported missing after he failed to return the keys to a property he was staying in on July 19.
According to reports, Algaba was identifiable owing to his distinctive tattoos, use of which was compounded by examination of the victim’s fingerprints.
A further autopsy suggested Algaba was shot some three times before being dismembered.
Algaba had accrued more than 900,000 followers on Instagram, where he posted regularly about cryptocurrency, luxury vehicles, and his global life more broadly.
According to the New York Post, however, the victim’s brother “did not do well” in Bitcoin.
Furthermore, suggestions have emerged that Algaba was in danger from Barra Bravas, an Argentinian gang noted for their violence and involvement in Argentina’s football scene.
There are also reports that Algaba was in significant debt across various fronts. Local media reports these debts as the likely motivation behind the death.
Reports further claim that Algaba had posted messages regarding “evil people”. So far, one suspect has been arrested in connection to the alleged murder.
