MetaMask representative says a ‘placeholder’ page for future MetaMask token should be removed from CoinMarketCap.
A MetaMask representative blasted CoinMarketCap for publishing a listing page for the MASK token, which doesn’t exist yet, calling on the directory to “please take down this fake shit.”
The $MASK page drew attention from crypto users on Twitter on Friday, sparking even more speculation about when the popular crypto wallet might release its much-anticipated token.
Following the outcry from spencecoin.eth from MetaMask and parent company Consensys, CMC added the following disclaimer to the $MASK page: “This page is a placeholder for the eventual MetaMask token … There are no further details at the moment. Beware of fake phishing sites and check official MetaMask resources for further updates.”
In response, spencecoin.eth said the disclaimer is a welcome addition but that CMC should take down the page altogether and would bear responsibility for anyone who loses money on a fake MASK token.
MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet that enables users to interact with decentralized applications on smart contract blockchain networks like Ethereum and BNB Chain. It is used as a browser extension and as a mobile app, equipping users with a key vault, secure login, token wallet, and token exchange.
