A fake news report that CZ had been shot by law enforcement was passed around China’s WeChat social media network.
The rumors of his being shot by FBI agents are greatly exaggerated, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) said on Twitter Friday.
CZ shared a photoshopped image of the Twitter feed of the Chinese edition of The New York Times, including a fake story saying he had been shot by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation. The fake story had been circulated around Chinese social media giant WeChat.
Although one of CZ’s New Year’s resolutions was to “Ignore FUD, fake news, attacks, etc.” he’s had a rough time of it so far in 2023. Confronted with the strange rumor that he had been shot by U.S. law enforcement, CZ kept his response light, saying the Binance team works closely with the FBI and punctuating his response with a “shrug” emoji.
Responding to another Twitter user, CZ indulged in a little joke at the expense of anyone who believed the fake story and sold their cryptocurrency because of it.
