DashTickets is an online casino magazine that focuses on providing comprehensive reviews that help New Zealanders gamble safely amid a lack of proper regulation for offshore casinos. Here’s how the team makes it possible.
DashTickets is a gambling magazine founded by Matthew Robert Davey in 2009 that is operated by Dash Tickets New Zealand Limited. The magazine mainly focuses on reviewing online casinos that are entering the New Zealand market to ensure that they provide a good player experience and operate legitimately.
While New Zealand does have laws that protect its citizens against unethical gambling organizations, these mostly apply to land-based casinos, and offshore online casinos remain largely unmonitored. While this might change in the future with the introduction of a new licensing system, currently New Zealand players are in a vulnerable position.
“With so many online casinos using aggressive marketing tactics, every New Zealander is at risk of getting scammed or mistreated by some website that the government wasn’t able to monitor. We knew we had to serve as an extra layer of protection for our people because no one else could. That is why we established DashTickets: to inform fellow New Zealanders on every aspect of a particular casino before they spend any time or money on it,” says Mark Dash, editor-in-chief of DashTickets.
Today, DashTickets has become one of the leading niche websites in New Zealand, and the magazine focuses on providing unbiased online casino reviews from players’ perspective, covering every aspect of the experience: from withdrawal policies to overall usability and customer support.
In general, DashTickets reviews around four casinos a week and the ones that the team finds trustworthy and player-friendly get added to the extensive list on the website, serving as an easy way for locals to quickly find the best online casino options. Casinos that weren’t up to DashTickets’ standards will be called exactly that, and the scam casinos will be blacklisted to make sure locals don’t interact with them at all.
To simplify the reader’s experience, DashTickets introduced DashScore — a combined metric that rates a certain casino on a scale from 0 to 100 based on multiple aspects, including usability, games, bonuses, withdrawals, deposits, customer support, and more.
The team behind DashTickets has developed a strict review process to ensure that the resulting articles are unbiased, factually correct, and provide all the necessary information to help players make educated choices. The process consists of 16 steps, which include a full casino background check, depositing real NZ dollars, playing multiple games, attempting withdrawal, contacting other players to learn about their experiences, and more.
“We aim to be as thorough as possible because our experience tells us that the devil is often in the details. Every single casino does its best to look attractive and offers huge bonuses, but what if the bonus wagering conditions are terrible? You have to know these things beforehand, and that is what our magazine does — we playtest the casinos and tell you exactly what it would be like for you,” says Edward Howarth, author at DashTickets.
To ensure a completely unbiased experience, the team uses a mystery shopper tactic, so that the casino won’t be able to provide special attention to the reviewer or change the outcomes of the games in any way. Not only that, the team also emphasizes interacting with other players and learning more about the general reputation of a certain casino among New Zealanders.
“We believe that our goal is to help locals gamble without having to think of how they can be cheated, and learning more about other players’ perspectives does a lot in that regard. While an independent reviewer working somewhat anonymously can learn a lot, the reputation of a certain website is also something you have to take into account if you want to cover all bases,” says Howarth.
While comprehensive casino reviews are a huge part of the team’s work, DashTickets isn’t limited to them.
“Safe gambling isn’t just about choosing the right places to play, although that is a huge aspect of it, too. What that term means to us is a healthy interaction with a game that only has positive consequences. It is great to win, and it is fine to lose some money as well. However, chasing losses and getting addicted to the process is, unfortunately, not as rare as we wish it was. We want to mitigate that however we can,” says Mark Dash, editor-in-chief of DashTickets.
The team behind DashTickets covers multiple topics that can help New Zealanders interact with gambling in a safe, informed, and healthy manner: from writing articles on gambling addiction and the ways to combat it to providing market statistics and explaining the legal nuances of the industry in the country.
“Right now, DashTickets is a go-to place when you need to learn if a certain casino is legit. We consider this an achievement, but we don’t want to stop at that. Instead, we want to cover even more topics and become a go-to place if you need to learn anything about the casino industry in New Zealand at all. It is a long road to get there, but we already have a solid foundation for it, and a team that can absolutely handle this task,” says Mark Dash.
