The initiative involves the establishment of a center that will provide computers and cell phones to the homeless community in São Paulo.
In an effort to promote digital and financial inclusion among the homeless community in São Paulo, Binance has made a significant donation to a newly established charity initiative. Led by Father Júlio Lancellotti of Pastoral do Povo da Rua, the organization– Instituto Ruas, aims to break down barriers by providing access to computers and cell phones through crypto-enabled donations.
The forthcoming center will not only provide electronic devices but will also offer computer classes. The objective is to empower program beneficiaries to seek employment opportunities, and improve their living conditions.
The project has materialized thanks to a partnership between Instituto Ruas and Binance, the world's leading cryptocurrency exchange. Binance is supporting Instituto Ruas in constructing the digital inclusion facility and has established a dedicated page within its philanthropic arm, Binance Charity, to receive cryptocurrency donations for the project. The program's target is to raise $50,000, with Binance itself contributing $20,000 toward this objective. The exchange will not impose any transaction fees.
"Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are potent tools for social and financial inclusion, capable of significantly transforming lives and enhancing people's well-being," stated Guilherme Haddad Nazar, General Director of Binance in Brazil, in a press release.
With the Instituto de Padre Lancellotti's digital inclusion initiative gaining momentum, positive changes are anticipated for São Paulo's homeless population, facilitating their integration into the digital realm and unlocking a range of opportunities for their betterment.
Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a future where Web3 technology is used as a force for good. It has received more than 82,000 applications to its Binance Scholar Program, which has so far dedicated $2.2 million BUSD to supporting free access to some of the world’s best Web3 educational opportunities.
