The new optional email two-factor authentication (2FA) service serves as an extra protective measure for user Argent X accounts.
Argent X, the popular wallet on Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution, Starknet, has unveiled a groundbreaking security feature known as Argent Shield. In a recent tweet, the company highlighted the launch of Argent Shield as a testament to its commitment to security. This new offering aims to provide users with an extra layer of defense to safeguard their funds.
Argent Shield is an opt-in two-factor authentication (2FA) service for user wallets. By registering an email address as the second factor of authentication, users can enhance the security of their Argent X accounts. Even if their seed phrase is compromised, the email serves as an additional protective measure.
Once users have registered their email addresses, Argent acts as a guardian for their accounts. Reconfirmation with 2FA is required every 30 days to maintain the account's protection. Notably, users need not confirm their email address for every transaction at present, although Argent may consider adding this feature in the future to bolster security further.
The introduction of Argent Shield is a significant step forward in enhancing user security. In the event of a seed phrase theft, attackers will be unable to conduct transactions as long as they do not have access to the user's email. This reassurance underscores the robustness of the new feature and ensures that funds remain safe.
As with all Argent products, users have the flexibility to disable Argent Shield at any time through a simple transaction, requiring 2FA approval. Furthermore, Argent Shield guarantees complete censorship resistance and is non-custodial, empowering users to decide whether they want to apply this service to their accounts.
The introduction of Argent Shield within Argent X is part of the company's broader security initiative on Starknet. This release marks only the initial phase of their efforts, as they have plans to incorporate additional security features in the near future.
