WLFI Steps Into the Octagon

Donald Trump-backed decentralized finance project World Liberty Financial ($WLFI) has announced it will serve as an official sponsor of UFC Freedom 250, the marquee mixed martial arts event set to take place on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14, 2026. The deal adds $WLFI to a growing list of crypto-aligned brands attaching themselves to one of the most high-profile sporting events in recent memory.

UFC Freedom 250, also referred to as UFC at the White House, is scheduled for the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., with the event name referencing the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. The fights are set for June 14, which is also Flag Day in the United States and President Trump's 80th birthday.

A High-Stakes, High-Profile Stage

The main event features Justin Gaethje vs. Ilia Topuria in a lightweight championship bout, with Alex Pereira facing Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight title. While the main venue on the South Lawn holds around 4,300 to 4,500 seats, plans are in place to install large screens at the Ellipse capable of hosting up to 85,000 spectators for a free public viewing experience.

TKO president Mark Shapiro has stated the event is not expected to turn a profit, with the goal being to recoup roughly half of the total cost through sponsors and new partnerships. That makes commercial sponsorships, including World Liberty Financial's deal, central to the event's financial equation. UFC CEO Dana White has argued the cost is worth it to push MMA further into the mainstream, calling it "a huge brand play."

For World Liberty Financial, the sponsorship marks a significant step in bringing the project into mainstream sports and popular culture. The firm, which has drawn attention for its ties to the Trump family, now gains visibility at what is shaping up to be one of the most watched live events of 2026.

The event has not been without controversy. A lawsuit has been filed seeking to block the event on the grounds that it represents a private, for-profit sports event and challenges the use of White House grounds without congressional approval. A Trump administration official responded by calling the suit "obstructionist," stating the fight card was no different from other events hosted at the White House.
