University of Kansas and Ripple Announce Historic Multi-Year Jersey Patch Partnership
The University of Kansas has signed a five-year jersey patch deal with Ripple, making it the first major college athletics program to carry cryptocurrency branding across all intercollegiate uniforms.
The University of Kansas has entered a five-year strategic partnership with @Ripple, placing $XRP branding across all of its intercollegiate athletic uniforms. The deal marks the first time a cryptocurrency company has secured a jersey patch sponsorship with a major college athletics program and is reported to be among the most lucrative arrangements of its kind in collegiate sport.
A Landmark Moment for Crypto in College Sports
The timing is no accident. In January 2026, the NCAA Division I Cabinet approved a proposal allowing Division I programs to place commercial logos and patches on uniforms, equipment, and apparel for regular season and conference championship competitions. The rule takes effect August 1, with schools permitted to carry up to two sponsorship logos on uniforms and apparel. Industry estimates suggest power conference programs with heavy television exposure could command anywhere from $500,000 to more than $12 million annually from such deals.
Kansas Athletic Director Travis Goff had previously indicated the program was deep in negotiations on a patch deal that could be, in his words, "borderline kind of a game changer" for the department. The Ripple agreement appears to be that deal. The partnership positions $XRP branding prominently across Big 12 Conference broadcasts, a platform with broad national reach, putting a digital asset in front of a younger demographic that college sports consistently attracts.
Ripple Deepens Its Ties to Higher Education
The partnership builds on a longer relationship between Ripple and the University of Kansas. Ripple has previously supported the KU Blockchain Institute through its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), a program designed to accelerate academic research and technical development in blockchain and digital payments. That academic foundation now has a high-profile commercial counterpart on the playing field.
For Ripple, the sponsorship extends its brand well beyond financial infrastructure. The company has been expanding its visibility aggressively, recently ranking 16th on CNBC's 2026 top 50 disruptors list, while spot $XRP ETFs have drawn nearly $1.4 billion in net inflows since launch. Attaching the $XRP brand to one of college basketball's most storied programs adds a consumer-facing dimension that pure institutional partnerships cannot replicate.
The deal sets a precedent that other digital asset companies may look to follow as schools across the country race to capitalise on the new NCAA jersey patch framework ahead of the 2026 fall season.
