Trump And Iran Sign Deal To End War
President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have signed an initial agreement to end the US-Iran conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and launch a $300 billion reconstruction plan, with nuclear talks set for the next 60 days.

Framework Deal Reached After Months of Conflict
President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump) and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the US-Iran war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The deal marks an initial agreement intended to end more than three months of fighting, with a formal signing scheduled in Switzerland.
Trump announced on Truth Social that "The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete," while Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the agreement was reached "following a difficult and intensive period of negotiations lasting several months."
Iran had effectively controlled the Strait of Hormuz since shortly after the war began on February 28, virtually shutting down the vital passage for around 20% of the world's oil. The US blockaded Iranian ports in response.
Key Terms: Hormuz, Reconstruction, and Nuclear Talks
Under the MOU, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, with Iran agreeing to allow safe passage of commercial vessels at no charge for 60 days, followed by negotiations with Oman to define the future administration of the vital trade route.
The US will also terminate all types of sanctions, make frozen or restricted funds and assets fully available, and begin the removal of its naval blockade of Iran's ports.
One notable provision commits the US to working with regional partners to develop a plan for at least $300 billion to be distributed to Iran for reconstruction and economic development, with the mechanism for distribution to be negotiated during the 60-day period. Officials stressed the provision does not commit the US to providing the funds directly, arguing it would permit outside investment if a final deal is reached and Iran complies with its obligations.
On the nuclear front, Iran reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons, with a mechanism to be mutually agreed upon relating to its enriched material stockpile. During the 60-day negotiation period, the US will not impose any new sanctions or deploy any new troops.
Leaders across the Middle East and Europe praised the deal, including Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who helped mediate the agreement alongside Pakistan. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called it a "critical step," with his spokesperson expressing hope that parties will build on the momentum toward a final resolution.
