Six Years Since Launch

Shiba Inu $SHIB is approaching a significant milestone. The memecoin turns six on August 1, 2026, marking exactly six years since it was introduced as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum in 2020. It was launched by the anonymous developer known as Ryoshi, who minted 1 quadrillion tokens and set up a liquidity pool on Uniswap, with half of the total supply sent to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

To mark the occasion, the project shared an early photograph taken just 17 days after launch, when the website was still under construction and few observers could have anticipated what it would eventually become.

What began as a meme coin has since evolved into a wider ecosystem, with ShibaSwap, Shibarium, BONE, and LEASH all playing their part to keep SHIB one of the biggest meme-based cryptocurrencies by market cap.

Fresh Momentum Heading Into the Anniversary

The anniversary comes at a notable moment for the token. The Shiba Inu team made it "experiment will continue" on the cusp of the sixth anniversary. The price of the memecoin soared by roughly 20% within just a week, becoming one of the best-performing tokens within the top 30.

Shiba Inu jumped about 36 percent to $0.0000057 on July 26, adding roughly $1 billion in market value in a day without any clear fundamental catalyst. South Korean traders on Upbit, where the SHIB/KRW pair accounts for more than a tenth of global volume, appear to be driving the move, while liquidations of short positions followed the rally rather than causing it.

Despite the near-term gains, the token remains well off its historical highs. SHIB is down roughly 95% from its record peak reached in October 2021. Longer-term ecosystem development continues in the background, with the team focused on expanding Shibarium's infrastructure and utility.
