Ripple, Jp Morgan, & Ondo Team Up To Make History

Ripple, JP Morgan's Kinexys, Mastercard, and Ondo Finance completed the first cross-border, near real-time redemption of tokenized US Treasuries on the XRP Ledger, connecting public blockchain infrastructure with traditional interbank settlement rails.

Ripple, Jp Morgan, & Ondo Team Up To Make History

@OndoFinance, JP Morgan's Kinexys platform, @Mastercard, and @Ripple have completed what is being described as a landmark pilot transaction, connecting the $XRP Ledger with traditional interbank settlement infrastructure for the first time.

The pilot involved Ripple redeeming a portion of its Ondo Short-Term US Government Treasuries (OUSG) holdings on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Ondo processed the redemption and sent the cash payout order through Mastercard's Multi-Token Network, which routed it to Kinexys by JP Morgan. JP Morgan then delivered USD to Ripple's bank account in Singapore. The transaction was completed in under five seconds, highlighting a hybrid model in which XRPL handled the asset token movement while traditional banking rails facilitated fiat settlement.

A First for Tokenized Treasury Settlement

Ondo President Ian De Bode described it as "the first time tokenized US Treasuries have settled across borders and banks in near-real time and outside traditional banking windows." Ondo noted that while tokenized real-world assets have expanded, redemption systems have still relied too much on wire payments, manual work, and limited opening hours. This pilot directly addresses that gap.

The blockchain leg of the transaction processed in under five seconds. Tokenized US Treasuries have grown rapidly over the past year, crossing the $10 billion milestone in February 2026 for the first time, and standing at approximately $12.88 billion by early April, up 225% over 15 months.

Markus Infanger, senior VP of RippleX, emphasised how the transaction demonstrates that tokenized assets can move seamlessly between public blockchain infrastructure and the global financial system. "When paired with global banking infrastructure, this pilot shows how institutions can execute cross-border transactions as a single, integrated flow," he said.

What Each Party Brought to the Table

Mastercard's Multi-Token Network facilitated the cross-border settlement by enabling interoperability between on-chain assets and traditional fiat money. Kinexys serves as JP Morgan's blockchain infrastructure platform, supporting settlement and correspondent banking network integration for institutional clients. Ondo Finance, meanwhile, specialises in bringing institutional-grade financial products on-chain, including tokenized US Treasuries for qualified investors.

Ondo confirmed that the same architecture can support redemptions from any public blockchain where OUSG is issued, including XRPL. By combining public blockchain execution with interbank settlement systems, the model points toward a financial infrastructure that can run 24/7, with near real-time settlement across borders, something traditional markets have never been able to do.

While the pilot was small in scale, its implications are significant. The initiative supports Ripple's long-standing view that blockchain technology can improve cross-border settlement efficiency without fully replacing banks. For the broader financial industry, it offers a working blueprint for how tokenized assets and legacy banking infrastructure can function as one continuous, connected system.
