Internet Computer'S Cloud Engines Represent An Inflection Point...
DFINITY founder Dominic Williams unveils Cloud Engines on Internet Computer's five-year anniversary, offering tamperproof sovereign cloud infrastructure built for the AI era with no vendor lock-in.

A New Sovereign Cloud Model for the AI Era
@Dominic_w, founder of @Dfinity, used the Internet Computer ($ICP) protocol's five-year anniversary to unveil detailed plans for Cloud Engines, the network's forthcoming sovereign cloud technology set to launch via opencloud.org. The announcement marks one of the most significant product reveals in the protocol's history.
Cloud Engines allows anyone to spin up their own tamperproof sovereign cloud by selecting and configuring nodes within the mathematically secure Internet Computer network. Crucially, owners can choose their own node operators and locations, mix in instances from Big Tech providers such as @AWS, @Azure, and @Google, add sovereign AI nodes, and scale capacity instantly without downtime or vendor lock-in.
Built for AI Agents, Not Sysadmins
Williams was clear that Cloud Engines is designed specifically for the AI era. The technology enables AI agents to create and update online applications and services without requiring security teams or systems administrators. Software hosted on Cloud Engines is immune to infrastructure hacks, guaranteed to run as long as sufficient nodes remain operational, and protected by orthogonal persistence in the Motoko language, which automatically detects and prevents lossy AI-generated updates.
According to the Internet Computer's official site, every upgrade is verified before it runs. If a migration would silently drop data, the deploy is rejected and the agent retries until it is safe, meaning a bad AI-generated commit cannot reach a live application.
Users will also be able to develop and deploy apps directly from AI platforms such as Claude or Perplexity, with seamless integration through @caffeineai, while retaining full technological sovereignty. Frontier coding agents including Caffeine, Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, Cursor, and Perplexity will be able to build and deploy services directly into the network.
On the economic side, the new model tied to Cloud Engines is designed to make $ICP deflationary, with 20% of revenue earmarked to buy back and burn tokens, according to data from CoinMarketCap's ICP updates tracker.
DFINITY describes the Internet Computer as an open network providing a serverless sovereign cloud, allowing governments, institutions, and individuals to run tamper-proof and resilient software with full ownership, free from foreign provider and intelligence agency access.
