Openai Releases 13-Page Policy Blueprint Calling For Robot Taxes, Public Wealth Fund, And Four-Day Work Week

@OpenAI published "Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age" on Monday, proposing sweeping economic reforms to prepare for superintelligence. The document calls for a national public wealth fund seeded by AI companies that would distribute returns directly to citizens, robot taxes on automated labor, and pilot programs for 32-hour work weeks.

CEO Sam Altman (@sama) told Axios the scale of change from AI is "comparable to the Progressive Era and the New Deal." The blueprint proposes auto-triggering safety nets that activate when AI-driven unemployment hits preset thresholds, then phase out when conditions stabilize. It also includes containment playbooks for rogue AI systems.

OpenAI advocates shifting the tax base from payroll to capital gains and corporate income, acknowledging AI could hollow out Social Security funding. The document lands as Congress prepares to debate AI legislation and ahead of OpenAI's potential IPO at an $852 billion valuation.
