The latest development in Sam Bankman-Fried’s high-profile court saga sees his lawyers take issue with the resources afforded the defendant
The lawyers responsible for Sam Bankman-Fried’s defense in his upcoming October trial have described the preparation time and resources afforded to their client as ‘entirely inadequate’.
The claim was made in a letter addressed to Manhattan judge, Lewis Kaplan, which branded the decision to allow SBF just two days per week, with no dedicated computer, a violation of the FTX-founder’s six amendment rights.
According to the lawyers, "This is entirely inadequate and Mr. Bankman-Fried will not be able to meaningfully participate in his defense, as is his right under the Sixth Amendment,”
It was also pointed out that the allowance is not in line with the judge’s expectation that SBF should be afforded at least nine hours a day to review evidence relating to the trial, and the lawyers further took issue with the lack of resources to allow the infamous founder the ability to share relevant materials with their team.
The above comes in the wake of Bankman-Fried's bail being revoked on August 11, after suspicions emerged surrounding supposed attempts to interfere with witnesses set to testify against him.
The decision means that SBF is now imprisoned in a Brooklyn jail, the conditions of which have previously been described as ‘inhumane’, and the jail itself as ‘run by morons’, with the defendant having formerly been permitted house-arrest at his parents’ home in California.
