Trump's crypto journey continues with the launch of "The DeFiant Ones." Promises to disrupt traditional banking.
Former US President Donald Trump announced his new cryptocurrency project, "The DeFiant Ones."
The news, revealed through a post on Truth Social, Trump's own social media platform, has sparked curiosity and speculation across the financial and crypto communities.
“For too long, the average American has been squeezed by the big banks and financial elites. It’s time we take a stand — together,” the former president wrote on his platform Truth Social.
While specific details remain sparse, the project appears to be focused on serving unbanked and underserved communities.
The project, dubbed "The DeFiant Ones," was first teased by Trump's son, Eric Trump, who hinted at a major crypto-related announcement on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). He expressed his enthusiasm for decentralized finance, stating that the Trump family was about to "shake up the crypto world with something HUGE."
Despite the excitement surrounding the project, details remain limited. The official communication channels, including a Telegram group linked to the project, have provided little information beyond promises of upcoming updates and announcements.
One of Trump's sons, Eric Trump, says the project involves "digital real estate." Some analysts speculate that tokenizing real-world assets would allow users to buy and sell digital representations of physical properties.
As of now, the Telegram channel has attracted around 39,000 followers, all eagerly awaiting further news.
As Trump competes against Vice President Kamala Harris on the crypto front, this move may be seen as an attempt to recruit tech-savvy and financially independent voters.
During his presidency, Trump had dismissed Bitcoin and other digital currencies as fraudulent. However, his stance seems to have softened in recent months. This newfound embrace of decentralized finance (DeFi) was evident when Trump headlined the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville last month, where he unveiled a series of crypto-friendly proposals.
"I am proud to be the first American president to address a Bitcoin event anywhere in the world," Trump stated during the conference.
Trump's engagement with crypto is likely to be a significant talking point in the coming months, particularly as he continues to position himself as a champion of American innovation and financial independence. His promise to make the US a crypto "superpower" and his pledge to ensure that the country "never sells" its Bitcoin if he is re-elected.
The project aims to serve unbanked and underserved communities, though specific details are still undisclosed.
