From Football Games to RWA: Xander of TOPGOAL Shares His Vision - Learn how TOPGOAL is transforming the sports industry through innovation.

Q1. TOPGOAL has always been focused on the sports track and is very professional. What has been its past performance in sports?

We started the development of the first mobile football manager game in 2013, and started developing 3D games in 2015. Until 2020, we had our own action engine to show all the movements of players in the game. As of last month, 7 products have received a total turnover of $42 billion and 21 million downloads. One of our games won the Google Play 2019 Best Strategy Game of the Year. These experiences enable us to launch a high-level Web3 football game at a relatively low cost and in a relatively short time.

Q2. The team has been focusing on the sports track from NFT, Web3 football games to RWA for two years. How did the team choose these businesses?

We focus on the sports for two main reasons: our team's strong background in the sports industry and the high potential of Web3 sports, which is still booming and has a long way to go.

Our team has over ten years' experience in sports mobile games and that’s why we connected with football legends and clubs. The relationships allow us to quickly establish strong partnerships when expanding into the NFT.

Sports, especially football, is a large and fast-growing industry with hundreds of billions in market size. The football RWA business was inspired by numerous successful RWA projects in 2024. After carefully researching opportunities in sports, we discovered that Europe and South America have many businesses similar to RWA. The slogan for TOPGOAL's RWA project, TOPMARKET, is "I contributed to the rise of a football star". For fans, the opportunity to personally discover, participate in, and potentially earn returns exceeding 100 times their investment is something to be proud of. During our visits to scouts, agents, and clubs in Europe and the Americas, we found that many people resonated deeply with our ideas—some even continued elaborating enthusiastically on their own after we introduced the concept. We firmly believe this is the right direction to take. I wanted to make the sports world a better place through decentralization and self-sovereignty.

Q3. Sounds like the Web2 football game was the beginning of everything. Let’s start with something about yourself. How did you get interested in developing games?

I got my Master's degree from the States in 2013 and started getting into game development in my first year of graduate with my seniors. It was a simple, indie landscape and I was doing UI and some planning work. Well… the ending to the project was just so predictable. As I’d got the production and business experience, plus the fact the games industry was growing, I decided to give it a go. I struggled for a long time among football, military and Dota, and finally bang! football, which I personally like the most. I have more than 10,000 hours on EA's FIFA series and I think I know very well what fans and players want.

My highlight was getting the initial funding for starting a full-time business. We started with 10 people, and the office was located in an old and lower-cost apartment. Later, several games performed well, and the company also received investment from well-known investment institutions and industry leaders including "Sequoia" and "Tencent".

Q4. How did you get into this line of web3 sports work?

I learned something about hot-selling NBA Top Shot —sports, a concept that made the industry make more sense — how NFTs and the whole logic behind it for sports fans. Since someone has done well in the basketball track, it is just right to start exploring the football that I am good at.

Another reason is that after 2019, traditional Web2 sports games have been increasingly impacted by the products of traditional capitals. At that time, our monthly turnover was second only to FIFA and PES series on the mobile side, but no matter how hard we tried, we could not narrow the gap. The conclusion of our analysis is that the scale of the sports console game market is much larger than the mobile game market. FIFA and PES, two projects with a total annual revenue of more than $2 billion on the console side, have a total investment in marketing that is far greater than that of mobile products. Correspondingly, their mobile products have benefited from the massive advertising on the console side, which means that mobile game sports teams only need a small amount of funds to get much more downloads than small companies like us. The competition is fierce, but we cannot change it. It is difficult for us to become the first unless we find a new track, and Web3 is just such a track. Without EA Sports and Konami, we have time for trying various ways to create a new world the way you see it. Dare to dream number one then make it become a reality.

Q5. What problems have you encountered in doing the activity?

Yes. We have encountered many difficulties that I have never imagined before. And we have learned a lot of lessons from them.

1. I didn’t really take into account how important media and channels were until I worked on this project, and that cost me because we missed many opportunities to expand our project in the eyes of our potential friends.

2. TopManager, the number of our first gamers is not growing as quickly as I was not familiar with the Web3 industry. It was a waste of a product that took 9 months to Web3. This prompted us to think that we must launch a brand new design that is not available on the market and that both Web3 and Web2 fans can quickly get started with. This is Footballcraft.

3. Because I was not familiar with the security of the blockchain, our project was attacked by hackers twice in 2023. The first time caused a relatively large loss and brought a certain degree of misunderstanding in the community.

4. The Cryptopedia event on the OKX in the summer of 2024, because the rules of the event would give rewards according to the user’s account, a large number of robot players poured into the game, causing the server to be overloaded and continuously crashed. In the first week of the event, our engineers had almost no complete rest for a night.

Seeing many complaints and complaints from players online, even misunderstandings, I often feel very guilty. I dived into the industry without fully understanding it, and I would like to apologize for the bugs and mistakes we have made. In the past two years since I entered the Web3 industry, the total number of unexpected things that have happened has exceeded the number of Web2 in ten years. I think this is also a feature of a high-growth industry. I believe that TOPGOAL could embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.

Q6. What gave you motivation to continue doing what you do?

Besides the passion for football and ambition to bridge sports to web3, I am always motivated by the community who support us. I updated X regularly during the first year of the project though I stopped using it for some reasons... Making mistakes is part of the journey and thinking about my own web3 journey, I realized that I would have learned things a lot more quickly if I had felt comfortable with making mistakes. I'm really grateful for my friends and fans. We have lots of supportive partners who stand beside us and give us the most valuable gifts such as Chiliz, OKX, BNB Chain and Cyberport. I think we can do something different together and it makes the whole ecosystem better. I want to make games and experiences that are inspiring to people and make them want to get into it as well. I’m on the way.

Q7. How about Footballcraft? How to identify your ideal patterns?

Some people understand that "Footballcraft" is a simplified version of Football Manager. I have to say …Footballcraft goes deeper and wider. Football Manager is a single-player PVE model with a buyout system. Time means everything in Football Manager - more time, more funds, more players. But Footballcraft is PvP mode where you and your club go head-to-head against real players and their club(All players share a singular timeline, and all champions would be recorded permanently on the blockchain.)  I think P2W and solo model cheapens the game and rips any shred of challenge from it. What's the point of even playing something, if you can just skip to the end and harness heaven mode?

Try to look for patterns, if all the countries in the game are unlocked (countries are supposed to be unlocked based on the number of active players),  it will no longer be possible to rely on actual updates from the development team. It should be a virtual parallel world that can move according to the rules of the existing football world. After several months in Footballcraft (1 year in the game is equal to 1 month in real life), you will have your own star like Haaland, Mbappe, and Vinicius. In Footballcraft, the World Cup champion may come from Asia; a manager may make $100,000 by selling the club; the coach of the Championship team may be an old lady who appears at the stadium every week...I hope Footballcraft will be able to connect with anyone and enjoy the conversation.

Q8. How would you approach sports RWA? How TOPGOAL break into a new field?

TOPMARKET, the first platform that enables the tokenization and trading of the world’s most promising football players’ economic performance. Revenue from RWA sales is distributed among players, agencies, and the platform, ensuring sustainable growth.

Core Assets 1: Future yields/earnings of players/agencies/clubs

To earn a particular share of the future salary of future top players.

To earn a particular share of the commission fee from top agencies.

To earn a particular share of the bonus from clubs.

Core Assets 2: Virtual Asset Products - Limited NFTs

Eg. The NFT players are so powerful and helped me win the league championship in Footballcraft.

Core Assets 3: Signed Cards & Jerseys

Exclusive signed cards and jerseys before he/she becomes superstars. Think of how crazy the fans will be if we take out Yamal’s signed jerseys back to his 14 y.o.

Q9. Is it essential to establish a clear framework of the RWA project? How could we ensure that RWA owners can share the benefits?

Of course. The RWA contract is legally binding between the player/agency/club and TOPGOAL which is compliant with law and respects the rights of players. The agreement ensured that players and RWA owners would profit from a new system which must guarantee a fair and effective balance. TOPGOAL and Plume Protocol have moved forward with the strategic partnership of constant cooperation and compliance solutions for the project.

Q10. Tell us more about the project…

There are potential partners I'm talking to now - we work in the same/different field and I think our ambitions align. More details will be revealed in the Q1 2025.

Q11. That’s fantastic. Could you share some good news with the community?

Sure. There are many exciting plans that I would love to share with the community.

  1. We'll share the open beta stage 2 testing link on the official X and welcome everyone to enjoy Footballcraft. Most importantly, sharing your feedback has the power to make a change.
  2. Topmarket's official website will be launched in January 2025, which marks that the sports track has the first RWA platform.
  3. We are actively communicating with the $GOAL exchange and will take the remarkable RWA opportunity to rebrand a unique ecosystem. I believe that TOPGOAL team forge a path toward stronger connections with fans.
  4. For the upcoming year, our focus will especially be Europe, South Korea and Japan with large football fan bases. We believe that friends from these areas could play games, buy RWA and tokens through local exchanges - it is such a well-rounded ecosystem experience, both narratively and visually.
