Ton Blockchain Fees Cut By 6 Times

The TON Blockchain has slashed transaction fees sixfold following a validator-approved protocol upgrade, with sending TON now costing roughly $0.00052 and USDT transfers dropping to $0.00142 — part of the broader MTONGA roadmap that targets fully feeless transactions next.

Ton Blockchain Fees Cut By 6 Times

The Open Network (@Ton_blockchain) has officially cut transaction fees by six times after a majority of network validators approved the protocol upgrade. Sending $TON now costs approximately $0.00052, while $USDT transfers on the network have dropped to $0.00142 per transaction.

The fee reduction was confirmed by Telegram founder @Durov and is part of a broader strategic push to establish TON as the default mobile-first settlement layer for Telegram's roughly 900 million users.

A Fixed, Near-Zero Fee Model

Unlike most blockchains, where transaction costs fluctuate with network demand, TON's new structure locks fees at a flat rate. The base fee has been reduced from 0.00234 TON to 0.00039 TON — approximately $0.0005 — and will remain fixed regardless of network congestion, permanently eliminating dynamic pricing spikes.

This predictability matters as much as the headline number. Developers building on TON can now budget reliably, and users transacting through Telegram-integrated apps will no longer face sudden cost increases during periods of high activity.

Part of the MTONGA Roadmap

The fee cut is the second step in Durov's "Make TON Great Again" (MTONGA) roadmap. The first step, the Catchain 2.0 upgrade, went live on April 9 and made the network ten times faster while introducing sub-second transaction finality. Five further phases remain on the roadmap, though no timeline has been disclosed for those steps.

Durov has also signalled that the fee reduction is not the endpoint. Most transactions on the network are expected to transition to a fully feeless, zero-commission model in a subsequent phase — a move that would put TON in direct competition with traditional payment platforms for everyday micro-transactions such as creator tipping, in-app purchases, and cross-border transfers.

The broader strategic logic is clear: TON's deep integration with Telegram, which has over 950 million users, gives the network a ready-made distribution advantage that few blockchains can match. Near-zero and eventually zero fees remove the last meaningful friction point between Telegram's user base and on-chain activity.
