A $BTC wallet that had sat untouched since August 2010 moved 20 BTC on May 31, 2026, ending nearly 16 years of dormancy. The wallet, dormant since August 2010, transferred 20 BTC worth roughly $1.47 million, drawing immediate attention from on-chain analysts. Galaxy Research first flagged the event in block 951828, mined at 05:14 UTC on May 31, 2026.

The address, starting with 1CDSyXAQxro4FPUoqAQb, last received coins nearly 16 years ago, placing the wallet firmly within Bitcoin's earliest mining era. At that time, CPU-based mining was common and the number of network participants was limited.

Not Satoshi's Coins, Analysts Say

Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, confirmed the coins are not linked to Satoshi Nakamoto. Galaxy distinguishes likely Satoshi clusters from other early wallets through on-chain heuristics, and the 20 BTC amount here did not match those profiles.

The final destination of the 20 BTC has not yet been confirmed, and it remains unclear whether the holder has begun selling, consolidated wallets, or moved to a newer address format. Holders may move funds to change wallets, strengthen security, consolidate assets, or transfer funds for inheritance and management purposes.

Twenty BTC represents statistical noise against Bitcoin's roughly $16.3 billion in daily spot volume. Similar Satoshi-era miner movements have surfaced repeatedly through 2025 and 2026, often without market consequence. Still, reallocations by early Bitcoin holders have been increasing recently in step with rising prices, with long-term investors who have held since the network's early days gradually moving assets becoming one pillar of the 2026 market.
