Ripple's $RLUSD just went Multichain
Ripple has expanded its institutional-grade stablecoin RLUSD across multiple blockchain ecosystems using Wormhole's Native Token Transfers framework, enabling native cross-chain transfers without wrapped assets.

Ripple Brings $RLUSD to Multiple Chains via Wormhole
@Ripple has officially expanded its institutional-grade stablecoin $RLUSD across multiple blockchain ecosystems, using @Wormhole's Native Token Transfers (NTT) framework as the underlying infrastructure. Testing has begun on Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain, in partnership with Wormhole and its NTT token standard.
$RLUSD was initially issued on both the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum, with the clear goal of enabling cross-chain and DeFi opportunities. The latest expansion marks the first time the stablecoin has moved into Ethereum Layer 2 networks. Wormhole provides developers access to liquidity and users on over 40 leading blockchain networks, enabling use cases that span DeFi, governance, and more.
Unlike bridged assets, Wormhole's NTT framework enables $RLUSD to maintain native issuance and control across every supported chain, reducing bridge risk, preserving liquidity integrity, and creating a regulatory-compliant pathway for institutional DeFi expansion. For Ripple, the approach reduces bridge risk and improves capital efficiency, two persistent challenges in multi-chain stablecoin deployments.
Compliance at the Core
$RLUSD is issued under a New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) Limited Purpose Trust Company charter, which ensures bank-level oversight and regulation. The move positions $RLUSD as the first U.S. trust-regulated stablecoin to deploy natively on these L2 ecosystems.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has issued a conditional approval for a national trust bank charter tied to Ripple National Trust Bank. Ripple says final approval would place $RLUSD under both state and federal oversight simultaneously, a structure it describes as uncommon among stablecoins.
Total supply has grown to exceed $1 billion, according to CoinGecko data. Beyond the U.S., Ripple holds over 75 licenses globally, with $RLUSD recently recognised by regulators in key international hubs including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The NTT framework provides the foundational infrastructure for $RLUSD to scale across global cross-border payment corridors and real-world asset tokenization platforms.
