Payments on Polygon are about to become more reliable
Polygon's Ithaca hardfork is set to activate on mainnet at block 50,185,000 on July 29, introducing automatic failover and new safeguards to keep transactions running smoothly.
Ithaca Hardfork Targets Transaction Continuity
@0xPolygon Labs has confirmed that the Ithaca upgrade will activate on the Polygon mainnet at block 50,185,000, following a successful deployment on the Amoy testnet. The fork is scheduled for approximately 2 PM UTC on July 29.
The headline feature is automatic failover: if a block producer stalls, the network will route around the disruption rather than waiting, keeping transactions moving without manual intervention. That is a meaningful step forward for any application, particularly payment flows, that depends on consistent throughput.
The upgrade also introduces new filters designed to screen out transactions that could destabilize the network, adding a layer of protection that sits at the protocol level rather than relying on application-side logic.
More Visibility for Node Operators
Beyond the failover mechanics, Ithaca gives node operators enhanced tooling to monitor network health in real time. Better observability means infrastructure teams can spot and respond to issues earlier, reducing the window between a problem emerging and being resolved.
The Ithaca upgrade is the latest in a steady sequence of improvements to Polygon's PoS chain. Earlier this year, the Giugliano hardfork delivered faster transaction finality and embedded fee parameters directly into block headers, while the Zurich hardfork raised the block gas limit and cut block times to support higher payment throughput. Ithaca builds on that foundation by focusing specifically on resilience, the ability of the network to keep running cleanly even when individual components hit unexpected conditions.
