Pi Network's Protocol v25 is bringing several Improvements
Pi Network's @PiCoreTeam has scheduled its Protocol v25 upgrade for July 22, introducing zero-knowledge proof support, BN254 cryptography, and privacy-preserving smart contract features to strengthen its global blockchain ecosystem.
July 22 Upgrade Targets Network Stability and Privacy-Preserving Contracts
@PiCoreTeam has confirmed that Pi Network will upgrade to Protocol v25 on Wednesday, July 22. According to the official Pi Network blog, the upgrade primarily focuses on improving network stability and reliability, while introducing new capabilities for more efficient, privacy-preserving smart contracts.
At the core of the release are two cryptographic additions: BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing. These technical building blocks enable developers to build modern zero-knowledge applications, allowing a user to prove that an identity or eligibility requirement has been met without sharing the underlying personal data with an application. The addition of zero-knowledge proof support is particularly relevant given that KYC-verified human participation is already central to the $PI ecosystem.
The changes are set to be deployed on the testnet before a future mainnet rollout. Pi Network also confirmed that the upgrade is intended to support future node enhancements, open-source development, and its planned decentralized exchange (DEX) ecosystem.
Context: A Series of Incremental Protocol Steps
Protocol v25 is the latest in a steady sequence of infrastructure upgrades from the Pi Core Team. The project moved through versions v22 and v23 in May before implementing v24 in early June. Node operators have been urged to install the latest compatible software before July 22 to remain connected to the network and avoid synchronization issues during the transition.
The technical rollout arrives against a difficult backdrop for the $PI token. PI was trading close to $0.075 on July 16, roughly 97.5% below its February 2025 peak near $3, with recent selling pressure tied in part to the anticipated unlock of over 127 million tokens. Analysts note that while Protocol v25 strengthens the infrastructure available to developers, it does not by itself create immediate transaction demand or a catalyst for price recovery.
For the network's reported community of over 60 million engaged Pioneers, the more immediate change may be a redesigned side menu and profile page in the Pi mining app, which Pi says is the first step in a broader iterative refresh of the mobile interface.
