What Protocol v25 Brings to Pi Network

@PiCoreTeam has activated its Protocol v25 upgrade today, July 22, in what the team has described as the network's most significant technical overhaul of 2026. The upgrade primarily focuses on improving network stability and reliability, and supports new capabilities for more efficient, privacy-preserving smart contracts.

Protocol v25 brings technologies such as BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing, which allow developers to create privacy-preserving smart contracts and applications. In practical terms, these allow developers to build apps where users can verify information without sharing personal details, for example proving identity or eligibility without uploading sensitive documents.

The Pi Core Team has also confirmed that a further upgrade, Protocol v26, is expected later. Alongside the protocol work, Pi Network has started refreshing its mining app, introducing a redesigned side menu and profile page, and adding Dark Mode, one of the most requested features from the community.

Market Context: $PI Holds Above $1 Billion

The upgrade arrives at a tricky moment for the token. The market capitalisation of Pi Network ($PI) stands at approximately $1.017 billion, ranking it #62 on CoinGecko. That figure represents a recovery back above the $1 billion threshold after a turbulent stretch, though the token remains well off its all-time high.

Although Protocol v25 is an important technical upgrade, many investors are wondering if it can help $PI recover, with the update expected to make it easier for developers to build new apps and increase network activity. However, supply pressure remains a structural concern: according to PiScan data, more than 775.8 million Pi is scheduled to unlock between July and December 2026, adding more selling pressure to the market.

For now, the core team is focused on building. The Pi Core Team has said Protocol v25 is one of the biggest network upgrades this year, with the main goal of making the Pi blockchain more stable, reliable, and ready for future applications.
