Hyperliquid Enters Prediction Markets
Hyperliquid has activated HIP-4 on mainnet, bringing canonical prediction markets tied to real-world off-chain events to its Layer 1 platform, with validators overseeing settlement through automated newsfeed infrastructure.

Hyperliquid has moved into prediction markets with the activation of HIP-4 on mainnet, launching canonical outcome contracts tied to real-world off-chain events. Validators oversee deployment and settlement decisions through automated newsfeed infrastructure, marking a meaningful expansion for the platform beyond its perpetual futures roots.
How HIP-4 Outcome Markets Work
Hyperliquid activated its HIP-4 Outcome Markets on mainnet on May 2, 2026, bringing fully collateralized, on-chain prediction markets directly into the same account where traders already run perpetual futures and spot positions. Each market poses a yes or no question. Traders buy YES or NO positions using USDH as collateral, and at expiry the winning side settles to 1 USDH per unit while the losing side settles to 0. The price of a YES token at any moment represents the market's implied probability of the event occurring. Positions are fully collateralized in USDH, Hyperliquid's native stablecoin, and carry no liquidation risk.
HIP-4 charges zero fees to open positions, directly targeting Polymarket and Kalshi for on-chain prediction market volume. Builders can deploy permissionless markets in a later phase by staking 1,000,000 $HYPE, with slashable stakes burned if rules are violated. The upgrade integrates with Hyperliquid's existing portfolio margin system, so traders can manage spot positions, perpetuals, and outcome contracts from a single unified margin account.
Early Traction and the Competitive Landscape
Trading volume reached 6.05 million contracts in the first 24 hours, according to researcher defioasis.eth. Hyperliquid has since expanded into macroeconomic events, launching its first US macro event market using HIP-4 outcome contracts, letting traders bet USDC on the May 2026 CPI year-over-year print in a fully collateralized, no-liquidation format that settles on June 10 off official Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The CPI listing is part of a broader push to turn Hyperliquid from a pure perp DEX into a full-stack derivatives venue that can natively host prediction markets across crypto, macro, and sports. By listing a CPI year-over-year outcome market, Hyperliquid is letting its existing perp traders express that macro view directly in the same interface where they already trade BTC, ETH, and basis trades, instead of routing through an external prediction protocol or centralized broker. Categories planned for further expansion include politics, sports, macro data releases, crypto events, and entertainment.
