Hyperliquid Hip 4 Contract Sees 6m Day One Volume

Hyperliquid's HIP-4 event contract recorded 6.05 million contracts on its first day of trading, capturing 0.7% of the prediction market. BTC daily binary contracts are now live on mainnet as Hyperliquid takes on Polymarket and Kalshi with zero open fees.

Hyperliquid Hip 4 Contract Sees 6m Day One Volume

Hyperliquid's HIP-4 event contract has made an immediate impression since going live, recording 6.05 million contracts on its first day of trading and capturing roughly 0.7% of the day's total prediction market share, according to data from Datadashboards.

The figures put Hyperliquid well behind the market's established leaders in raw volume. Kalshi recorded 546 million contracts on the same day, while Polymarket recorded 190 million. Limitless, Crypto.com, and Opinion also ranked ahead of the new entrant. Still, a 0.7% share on day one is a notable opening for a platform entering a competitive, well-funded space.

How HIP-4 Works

HIP-4, announced in February 2026, adds a separate primitive built for binary and multi-outcome event contracts that settle to exactly 0 or 1 at expiry. Unlike HIP-3, which covers perpetual futures for stocks, commodities, and real-world assets, HIP-4 is designed specifically for discrete, defined outcomes — the kind that cannot be handled by continuous oracle-based pricing.

Traders buy YES or NO tokens representing the implied probability of an event, with prices floating between 0.001 and 0.999 during continuous trading before settling at a fixed outcome at expiry. Positions are fully collateralized in USDH, Hyperliquid's native stablecoin, and carry no liquidation risk. The first live contracts cover recurring daily $BTC price threshold events, with categories including politics, sports, macro data releases, and entertainment planned for future rollout.

The fee structure is a central part of the pitch. Opening or minting an outcome position carries no fee, with charges applying only when closing, burning, or settling a position — a deliberate attempt to undercut Polymarket and Kalshi on cost.

A Structural Play Against the Competition

Beyond price, Hyperliquid is leaning on its integrated architecture as a differentiator. Traders can use cross-margin and the same wallet to trade $BTC outcomes, perpetual futures, or spot markets — all within a single account without bridging funds. On Polymarket and Kalshi, event markets remain siloed from other trading activity.

The token angle also sets Hyperliquid apart. Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, has argued that "HIP-4 will quickly become a dominant prediction market because of Hyperliquid's large user base, much cheaper trading fees, and very robust tech infrastructure," adding that $HYPE token holders can directly profit from their use of HIP-4 — something neither Polymarket nor Kalshi currently offers its users.

Hyperliquid set a record for new users on May 3, with 2,441 new original wallets, bringing its total to 1.19 million. For context, Polymarket claims over 18 million retail users. The gap remains wide, but HIP-4 represents a credible attempt to broaden the platform's appeal well beyond perpetuals trading.

The launch is phased. Builders who want to deploy their own outcome markets in later phases must stake 1,000,000 $HYPE per slot, with that stake slashable and burned if validators determine the deployer manipulated an oracle or caused prolonged downtime.
