Around $7.9 billion in $BTC options are set to expire this Friday, according to data from Glassnode, with $395 million in call open interest concentrated at the $75,000 strike — sitting close to current price levels.

The positioning has drawn attention from traders given the potential for sharp price swings into expiry. Negative funding rates across futures markets point to dominant short positioning, which raises the possibility of a short squeeze should Bitcoin manage to hold above that key $75,000 level as the expiry approaches.

Options expiries of this size can act as a gravitational pull on price, as market makers hedge their exposure and traders adjust positions in the final hours. The concentration of open interest near the current spot price adds another layer of sensitivity to the setup.
