Ethereum Foundation Wraps Eth Rangers Security Program, $5.8m Recovered

The @ethereumfndn has published the final results of its ETH Rangers Program, a six-month stipend initiative designed to fund independent security researchers working across the Ethereum ecosystem.

The 17 researchers supported by the program collectively recovered or froze more than $5.8 million in funds, reported over 785 vulnerabilities, and handled more than 36 incident responses during its run.

Among the standout outcomes was work carried out under the Ketman Project, which identified roughly 100 North Korean IT workers who had infiltrated Web3 organisations using false identities. The project notified around 53 affected teams as a result of the findings.

On the technical side, a separate research team uncovered 14 bugs spanning all five major Ethereum execution clients, namely Geth, Besu, Erigon, Nethermind, and Reth. The flaws included vulnerabilities that allowed asymmetric CPU consumption and exposed nodes to crashes under flooding attacks.

The program was delivered in partnership with Secureum, The Red Guild, and Security Alliance (SEAL).
