Charles Schwab Announces Phased Rollout Of Its Crypto Trading Platform

Charles Schwab has announced Schwab Crypto™, a new spot cryptocurrency trading service set to begin a phased rollout to retail clients in the coming weeks.

The platform will initially offer direct trading in $BTC and $ETH, positioning Schwab to compete with retail-focused brokerages such as Robinhood that have long offered crypto alongside stocks and other assets.

The launch allows Schwab's large retail client base to buy and hold the two largest digital assets by market capitalisation directly within their existing brokerage accounts, removing the need to move funds to a separate exchange or wallet.

The move represents a notable strategic shift for the firm, which had previously limited its crypto exposure to indirect products such as exchange-traded funds. Offering spot trading marks a meaningful step toward integrating digital assets into its core brokerage offering.
