Despite Shkreli's assertions, the Trump campaign has not officially endorsed the token, leaving the crypto community questioning its legitimacy.

DJT, the native token of the Save America movement, has seen a meteoric rise over the past week. Despite its rapid growth, DJT is surrounded by controversy, particularly about who is behind the project.

On Tuesday, the token surged 87%, from $0.001814 to $0.003384, before losing some momentum amid a volatile market. DJT’s self-reported market cap now stands at $175 million.

Origins and Claims

The token’s rise is shrouded in mystery. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT highlighted Martin Shkreli's claim of being involved in the creation of DJT alongside Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump. This followed a $150,000 bounty offered by Arkham, a blockchain data platform, to identify the token’s originator.

Later in an X Spaces with Mario Nawfal, Martin Shkreli, infamous for his controversial past, asserted his role in the DJT project. He claimed to have evidence of his involvement with Barron Trump.

In an X Spaces podcast, Shkreli claimed he only advised Barron Trump about the token launch but did not have an active role in deploying it. He alleged that Barron Trump and cryptocurrency influencer “Ansem” were the true creators of DJT. Shkreli also claimed that Donald Trump was aware of and approved the token.

Shkreli tried to back up his case by bringing “Mongolian Prince” into the X Spaces podcast. Mongolian Prince, a teenager with less than 500 X followers, claimed to have worked with Shkreli and recently met with Trump in Florida. However, his account of Trump’s involvement was less clear.

Despite these claims, the Trump campaign has yet to endorse the token officially, leading to skepticism within the crypto community.

Community Skepticism

The situation escalated when GCR, a well-known anonymous crypto trader, challenged the legitimacy of the token’s purported connection to Donald Trump. GCR placed a $100 million bet against Trump’s involvement in the project, alleging that influential crypto investors, or “whales,” were behind DJT.

Shkreli now insists that GCR honor his $100 million bet, asserting his co-creation of the token with Barron Trump.

The crypto community remains divided over the legitimacy of DJT. Some view it as a genuine project with high potential, while others see it as a publicity stunt by controversial figures. The lack of official endorsement from the Trump campaign further fuels skepticism.
