The collaboration, which establishes a joint venture called "Sony Network Communications Labs Pte. Ltd.," is set to leverage Sony's extensive experience across various business sectors, including gaming, entertainment, technology, imaging, and financial services.
Sony Network Communications and Startale Labs have formed a joint venture to develop a blockchain that could reportedly become the backbone of global Web3 infrastructure, according to a recent press release.
This venture marks Sony's latest foray into blockchain technology, further cementing its presence in the Web3 landscape. The new entity, "Sony Network Communications Labs Pte. Ltd.," will officially take shape in September. By pooling their collective expertise, skills, and networks, the collaboration aims to offer value-added services across a range of industries.
Sony Network Communications boasts a broad presence in the Sony Group, spanning gaming and network services, music, entertainment technology, imaging solutions, financial services, and more.
Jun Watanabe, President and Representative Director of Sony Network, underscored the fusion of Sony Network Communications' expertise in communication, IoT, AI, and solution services with Startale Labs' Web3 insights and technical prowess as the catalyst for driving global innovation.
Last June, Star Labs secured seed funding from Sony. Sony's financial backing will empower the company to double its workforce from 15 to 30, enhancing contributions to Astar Network and Polkadot and embarking on fresh Ethereum projects.
Worth noting, Sota Watanabe, CEO of Star Labs, recently questioned the United States' commitment to continuing digital technology advancements. According to Watanabe, Asian countries like China, Singapore, Japan, and Korea are more open to creating regulations to support Sony and Startale.
