Core Floki team member B gives status updates and drops some alpha to the Viking community about the high-flying MemeFi project.
It’s no secret that Floki is flying high, and the MemeFi project has so much going on right now that it can be difficult to keep up with all the moving parts. On Feb. 6, core team member B participated in a monthly AMA to give the latest info on the fast-growing project.
Topics covered included condolences for victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake, new price feeds for $FLOKI, the Valhalla game, China news, the potential for a Floki Layer-2 chain, burn plans, and future staking.
Let’s get to it:
B started off the AMA by noting the devastating impact the recent earthquake had on Turkey, which is home to a significant portion of the Viking community.
“Our Turkish Vikings are an important part of this project; they’re one of our biggest and most passionate communities and a core part of what we do here. Seeing what they are going through right now with the devastating earthquake breaks my heart and gives me so much pain,” B said.
Smart contract oracle network Chainlink is keeping track of the increased trade volume and activity around Floki. B said, “I think they are likely to reactivate the FLOKI price feeds soon if the current volume/momentum sustains.”
Further, B shared some news that Floki is talking to several other oracle solutions, including one that is now finalizing Floki price feeds.
“Once this price feed is finalized you should start seeing some really MAJOR DeFi integrations very soon, possibly even as early as this month! 🤔,” B said.
B noted the early popularity of the Valhalla game as evidence of Floki’s retail popularity, saying it was the most active project on the Optimism Goerli testnet. Further, B touted Valhalla as being a future onboarding mechanism for mainstream gamers into Floki and blockchain gaming generally.
“The game economy is being finalized, but it’s going to be designed to both 1) move large chunks of FLOKI tokens out of circulation into the Valhalla economy 2) be easy for people to play with as little barrier to entry as possible,” B said.
For several days, the project team has been hyping a planned Feb. 7 announcement about China. B dropped some hints about the nature of the announcement in the AMA:
“Pay attention to our announcement about our China move tomorrow, then imagine what we can do in the other regions mentioned above when Valhalla is finally live!”
...
“Oh, and I think tomorrow’s announcement will give many an idea of just how strategic we can be in positioning Floki and our utility products (especially Valhalla!) to capture market share and mainstream users where it matters. It will be very clear soon enough that we aren’t joking, playing, or sleeping here at Floki HQ. We mean business!”
Rival MemeFi project Shiba Inu has been making waves in the crypto space with the development of their upcoming Shibarium Layer-2 blockchain. During the AMA, a questioner asked whether the Floki team had considered creating its own blockchain or Layer-2 solution for the Floki ecosystem.
B responded, “This is a very interesting question that I can only give one answer to: No comments for now.”
B expressed some surprise that the closing of the project’s Ethereum-BNB Chain bridge and accompanying massive burn of $FLOKI got as much public attention as it did. Rather, B emphasized that the closing of the cross-chain bridge was vital from a security standpoint, to protect the project from exploits.
“So disabling the bridge and burning the tokens resident in it is the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT thing we can do to protect the Floki,” B said.
Going forward, B said the best way to control the supply of $FLOKI is through transactional burns, “and there will be a lot of that in the future.”
In regard to plans for staking $FLOKI, B leaked some alpha: “the Floki DAO will be voting on a PIVOTAL proposal that has to do with this very soon.”
B said, “I think the recent vote to disable/burn the bridge and reduce the transaction tax is the most pivotal vote Floki has had. I think the staking related vote, which will be happening very soon, is just as pivotal. Stay tuned for it!”
A question that is on everybody’s lips, but was not asked during the AMA, is if and when $FLOKI will be listed on the Binance Centralized Exchange.
(Keep in mind that Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) recently warned that projects not yet listed on Binance, that say they will be listed on Binance, will get an “automatic blacklist” from the CEX.)
With the value of $FLOKI soaring, B said that “We don’t give a damn about token price. None!”
Interestingly, the first item B mentioned on the list of things the team does focus on, is the number of $FLOKI holders. Several times in the AMA, B used the 400,000+ $FLOKI holders as the key metric to assess the success of the project.
Regular readers of BSC News should notice that, according to CZ, the number one thing Binance looks for when deciding to list a project is, yep, the number of users.
Floki Inu began with a tweet from Elon Musk. When the billionaire announced he would name his Shiba Inu puppy Floki, it created a deluge of ‘Floki’ dogcoins. The most successful of these is Floki Inu. Floki Inu is currently the third most popular meme token on the market, behind Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. It is backed by a community of committed enthusiasts and a strong marketing campaign.
