Internet Computer's (@dfinity) native token $ICP is riding the wave of a broader altcoin rebound, posting gains of over 13% in the past 24 hours as momentum builds across the crypto market in early May 2026.

The move has been accompanied by a sharp jump in trading activity. Trading volume for $ICP rose by roughly 377% in the past 24 hours, signalling a meaningful uptick in market participation. Community sentiment tracked on CoinMarketCap has climbed to 81%, reflecting growing retail interest in the token.

ICP Outperforms the Broader Market

With a price increase of 14.50% over the last seven days, $ICP has outperformed the global cryptocurrency market, which is up 6.60%, while also beating comparable smart contract platform tokens, which are up 6.50%.

The Internet Computer is a decentralized cloud blockchain that hosts full-stack applications, websites, and enterprise systems entirely on-chain. The $ICP token is used to pay for computation through a burn-based model and to participate in network governance through staking.

The price action comes ahead of a significant event on the network's calendar. DFINITY is set to showcase its sovereign Cloud Engines technology on May 10, 2026, a key milestone for its decentralized infrastructure push. The new economic model tied to Cloud Engines directs 20% of engine revenue to buy and burn $ICP tokens, while node providers earn 80%.

Separately, a major tokenomics overhaul is also underway. Mission 70 is a comprehensive tokenomics upgrade introduced in early 2026, aiming to reduce $ICP's annual token inflation by up to 70%, from roughly 9.72% to a target range of 2.92% to 5.42%.
