BNB Chain Just Issued A Mandatory Node Update Ahead Of Its Osaka/Mendel Hard Fork On April 28.

BSC v1.7.2 is now live and all mainnet node operators must upgrade before April 28 at 02:30 AM UTC or risk being dropped from the network. The update process is straightforward, a binary replacement is sufficient, but operators need to ensure no 'JournalFileEnabled' field is present in their config file.
The key upgrade shipping with Mendel is EIP-7825 via BEP-652, which enforces a transaction gas limit cap on BNB Smart Chain, a change that improves block construction predictability and protects the network against gas manipulation at the transaction level.
This follows a rapid cadence of BSC upgrades in 2026: the Fermi fork in January cut block times to 0.45 seconds, and the testnet Osaka/Mendel fork went live on March 27. Mainnet is next.
